Good! ..no BAD!!! ..no well..uhhmm.. maybe?

GOOD!!!

Pulp of citrus fruits like grapefruit contain glucarates, compounds that may help prevent breast cancer.

BAD!!!!
The women who ate the most -- about one-quarter grapefruit per day or half a grapefruit every other day -- had a 30% higher risk of breast cancer than women who ate no grapefruit. The risk remained high even after the researchers controlled for other factors that could influence breast cancer, like weight, whether the women used hormone therapy after menopause, and family history of the disease.

Is it just me or is every damn thing we eat for us "Bad" or "good" for us depending on whether it's an even or odd week? One week a glass of wine a day is good, the next it'll kill you.

These food scientists are clueless morons most of the time.
One year they tell you not to eat this and instead eat something else.
Then two years later they tell you , oops they were wrong and that it causes your head to explode.

Look at the recent trans fat news.
for years they all said get away from bacon, ham, etc its high in cholesterol and saturated fats.
Now they say those things they wanted people to switch to then are now bad for you.

I'll use lard like my 98 year old grandmother used till the day she died.
Maybe they need to ask the people who have lived that long whats best to eat.

I quit paying attention to them back when it was the butter v. margarine flip-flop.

People in this country spends so much time worrying about crap like this, they make themselves sick.

Heh yeah, pick any food and you can probably find a study that says its bad for you.

The way we should be approaching this is simple: ignore most of it.

Scientists are always doing research and report findings as one way or the other. The main "problem" really isn't the scientists who keep running tests to find out the right answer as they get more and more specific, but the media that runs in blaring the news.

and FWIW --> eating most things in moderation is good for you. If you eat a balanced and varied diet - you'll hit everything that is allegedly good for you without having to hunt down the latest "health food" every two weeks.

There's really only two rules that I live by with regards to food

1. Meat has to be cooked.

2. Stay away from cheese that doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Good rules to live by.

I would like to add, that the food should not be spoiled.

I would like to add that any green fuzzy stuff should be scraped off food before before eating it.

While technically it may be a vegitable, I don't like vegitables.

It's what you get when you have two waring factions:

The Industry pushing their "own studies".

Vs

Non-biased real studies.

Ding! Ding! Ding! This is surely one of the tuths on this. I have always figured that the farther from the original shape, source and form, the worse that it is for you, and the more that man has to do with it's preparation and or manipulation, the more chance that it is bad for you.

All I know is that Countries that seem to eat less of the corporate produced foods and more natural foods (that include whole butter-fats-eggs-olive oil-etc) like Italy, Spain, Mexico, have people that generally live longer.

Did they have a reason why the fruit was causing a more risk of cancer? I didn't read the artical, but maybe it was because we are spraying the fruits with more and more pesticide?

Moderation is key to anything. Eat / Drink enough of it and you'll be in trouble. You can overdose with water if you drink enough of it.

One of the most important things I learned from my old comparative physiology professor is that you can not judge the value or understand of a paper's results unless you actually read the paper and understand the methodolody used.

Typically you'll find the highest BS quota the higher the prestige of the university or medical journal involved IMO. Meaning, mixed in with very few good legit studies are the confused corporate influenced studies. Countries that are associated with supposedly less education many times have better basic living habits (not to be misunderstood with modern living) and understand that basic living (EG everything in moderation and don't believe in studies) has been the way it's been done for a long time and works. You don't have to worry about drug interactions with natural products if you're not taking/hooked on prescription drugs.

Good luck with that!

BTW how many research reports have you actually read and not just heard or read about on TV, in print, or the internet?

Not a huge amount of them but enough of them to form my own opinion. Harvard, Cornell, NYU, Northewestern U, yeah I've read more than a few. Not being a Medical Dr. myself (I'm in the Chiropractic-spinal studies area) but more than one family member is in the medical field. I don't actually read much about it on the net or listen to it on the TV (sometimes i do but rare) though I look at mostly real in-hand print studies as a comparative to the Chiropractic analysis of the material if it applies to that area of study.

Good for you 😀

I said don't eat meat, not that I don't eat meat. I'm hoping the price will drop from less demand. 😉 And meat takes too much grain to grow so I eat grass fed. But if you don't eat meat I congratulate you. Probably not a bad idea.
