Just visit intel website and you upgrade your driver to the 2002 version.

That's it!

My etower633ids now has 32MB video memory under winxp!

Please explain further, does the new version 6.6 drivers suddenly take over 32MB of your system ram rather than the normal 4MB? I would like to know, I'm putting togather a system for my sister using an old Intel CA810 motherboard.

although i do not own an eMachine, i am alittle skeptical as to how a driver can increase your video memory, unless the video card is shared memory. In that case wouldnt that rob you of performance in areas other than graphics?

Graphics performance is a PRETTY IMPORTANT enhancement and unless your system is lacking in amount of RAM, most likely XP's performance hit would be minimal, it seems to me.

This would be great, but nowhere in the release notes or the readme does it mention anything about changing the shared video memory. Where did you find out about this new feature?

yah that would make sense to me also, but i also have seen some of these eMachines on sale and most of them are ill-equipped in the area of ram, i dont have one i reinterate, but those of you that do may have a low amount of ram, this may hurt your performance instead of help.

then again i've never really dealt with shared memory video..just my 2 cents...

I can't find this in the release notes. Should be true for intel 810 & 815 chipset. Hot deal if true.

i agree. this might very well be what was intended all along. probably not gonna blow up in regards to gaming so much, but i can see it enhancing a few lives... i wanna try this on the computer i'm buying for my parents. much thanks for the info AND the link, mr. sgisp2!

Let me get this straight...

1) This is a tweak, there is no deal, nothing for anybody to buy? Thus no hot deal? OT or Tech Support forums maybe.

2) You guys surf this board, and this site, and bought an e-machine.... Didn't anybody tell you about emachinessuck.com. With all the hardware deals here, I'm supprised you would buy something so proprietary and of such poor craftsmanship and quality.

If ya ask me anything thats free and can increase performance, tweak or hardware, is a good deal. 'Specially if ya got an old machine sitting around. This forum has way too much thread crapping going on if ya don't like the post, don't post, and let it drop. Life goes and all is good, ya don't gotta post and let everyone know that its not in the right forum thats what the mods are for.

I put these drivers on my sony Vaio fx-120 (it uses the intel chipset) and sure enough it says there's 32mg of video memory... don't know if its actually using 32megs I'll ck the performace and let you know :)
If there is it'll be sweet 11 megs is a little low.

mr. dave, that is EXACTLY it. it is a hot deal if the performance of one's computer can be enhanced. these morons running in here bashing emachines need to get a life. little computer snobs... get out of this thread if you don't like the DEAL!

I agree... Had the poster originally put "Good News: Intel 810/815 Chipset users can upgrade their video memory to 32MB FREE!" it would have been better. Not only eMachines use this particular chipset.

A lot of us bought those cheap refurb Compgeeks eMachines a half a year ago, and for me, at least, they are all running great. Even better with 32 megs of video memory instead of 11. Sure, it's shared memory, but I put a 256 meg chip in each one I gave to family members, so they don't mind sharing a little bit of that for better video.

At work, I use an 815 motherboard with on board video. I think this uses 4 mb of memory located separately from the main memory, but maybe this will let me use shared memory instead. The driver lists the 815 chipset as being supported. In an earlier update of the driver, Intel increased the maximum refresh rate at 1024 x 768, which made a HUGE difference to me.

The post title should be changed, since its not emachine specific (I built my work machine using a Gigabyte board).

Hey Dave can you post the results, I have a Fx-120 too an would love a performance increase in video memory. As for limited amount of memory, if you have one of these systems upgrade you memory, it'll help all around. Since I have 512 and am only currently sharing 11MB on my notebook, I don't think the loss of memory to video would hurt it any (my computer still takes 4 minutes to complete startup, but running Oracle Enterprise and MySQL doesn't help).

I know this is good news for those who purchased the e-machines from Computergeeks.com last March. I purchased quite a few of etower 633's for friends on a budget and they were under $300 (good deal then).
And ... Yes that e-machine deal was posted in Anandtech hot deal's.

Sure, that makes sense. Maybe a mod will move it?

Who the h3ll are you to say this? Why berate someone who is just trying to pass on something helpful? Congratulations, you didn't buy an emachine. Perhaps others did, and this could help someone. Don't be an a-hole.
