The bad news is that "another one bites the dust". My company will be shutting its doors in a couple months. The major shame here is that we were a profitable and stable subsidiary - - but our monolithic corporate owners wanted to shuffle our customers somewhere else. :disgust: They will lose 1/2 in the process. Can you imagine a more expensive way to get customers?
This has been brewing for a while and is no surprise. I plan to exit the I.T. field and am getting a second bachelor's degree in accounting. Hey, I figure the world can cope with a 60 y/o accountant better than a 60 y/o programmer. (not there yet, but not *too* far off). I've been saving my pennies for this since the last IT depression (Boston, 1992), so it's manageable.
The good news is that I can assimilate a few work machines and have picked up some cheap ones for home ($40 for Dell P2/400 /w monitor + OS). I can do a www.powerleap.com "Tualatin" upgrade to 1GHz+ for another $99+.
Other good news is that the economy looks to be improving somewhat.
See Here
Anyway, thanks for listening. I've enjoyed being a part of the RC5, Seti, eccp, and D2OL teams and plan to continue.
