The thing was taking 5-15minutes to pick up a Satellite.

Is there one that picks it up quicker? I had this problem with Garmin on my Nokia too.

I find myself just waiting around doing nothing till it picks up a satellite. Are all of them like this?

I recently got a Garmin 205W and I've been impressed. It works from the floor of my truck and has Hotfix.

With Hotfix, the GPS can calculate the position of the satellites for a few days and lock in 30-sec. This assumes the turn-on location is the same as the last turn-off location. If you wait a week, then you'll need a bit of time for an initial lock.

With my new Garmin 770 from Costco.com, it acquired the satellites sufficient to work within a minute or two when opening the box for the first time. Now it'll take maybe ten seconds. I was impressed.

Anything with the SiRFstarIII chipset/antenna should be rather quick with aquisition and hold a strong signal.
