High Quality?

Thank MP3s for killing that trend. People now days don't care about QUALITY of the music.

Most music is compressed and sounds flat (to me anyways, I do have musicians hearing).

One of the reasons why I still buy CD > copy high quality to music library.

As for music. Try the Killers Shadowplay, end of the song will def test your lows....hehe (big killers fan here so don't mind me)

I've found that if you want to demo a sub, movies tend to work pretty well too ..

There's lots of additional details at avs. This link may be of some use to you.

Otherwise, I tend to listen to a lot of metal, and not much of it hits too hard on the sub. I sometimes listen to Blues and Jazz, and they too don't really hit the sub. The Stone Rock Band "Electric Wizard" does tend to hit the sub pretty hard, but, not as hard as many films do IMO.

Occasionally, I'll throw on some Hardstyle Techno, and as a general rule, that has lots of heavy deep bass, but again, in films they tend to push the envelope more in terms of bass.

How new? Berlioz Symphony Fantastique has a pretty awesome Tuba riff in the last movement.

You gotta get a recording of a Russian orchestra playing it. Or better yet, a russian conductor and a US orchestra. (Then it'll be 90% as Fucking Metal, but actually in tune.)

The group in the YouTube video is treating it like it's Bach. Blech.

An MP3/FLAC or original CD (from the last 20 years) will all be super compressed. MP3s lose a bit of fidelity above 15khz usually and because a lot of music is heavily limited you end up everything sounding flat.

Anyway, I think you're being mp3 snobby for no reason :p

The recording quality and studio processing is the main culprit of today's lo-fi. Artists want to make their music sound louder on the radio, and thus their music clips.
