just moved here and I'm in the mood to go city browsing
I've heard there are some good museums, art galleries and famous churches
Places where I can go alone to just check out

if possible, could you post the location of the places as well if you know if off the top of your head.. I'm leaving shortly and it'll help save some time

in terms of sightseeing places, my friends and I just had much more fun wandering around, hitting up random places we passed.

moma, the met, natural museum of history, and the cloisters all immediately spring to mind.

the intrepid is pretty neat too.

Chinatown is what, Water or Bridge street or something? I don't quite remember, it's been a few years since I was in NYC

The MET - It's on 5th Ave and 82nd street (East side of Central Park). Take the 4, 5, or 6 up to 86th street (and Madison) and walk (if you want to use Mass-transit).

lol welcome to nyc. 😀

the cloisters is cool if you're into medieval shit, botanical gardens is always nice to go on a date, also the museum of the moving image, its plenty fun if you're a movie buff.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Holy crap, the Soup Nazi is back with a chain?!? Wow.

I'd add the Top Of the Rock observation deck to the list as well, which is nicer than the Empire State one and usually has a shorter line.

There are also thousands of restaurants to choose from... pick a cuisine and go nuts!

Ground Zero should be on your list at some point.

Except you can't see anything.

Intrepid is gone for a while yet.

Screw empire state building, go to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center.

Check out John's Pizza on 44th and (7th or 8th, can't remember), Carmines on the same (bring people, family style). Go to Rare/View on 30 something and 2nd or 3rd. Good steaks, nice place to hang out on the top of a building.

Hit Grant's Tomb on 122nd on the UWS and head to St. John's the Divine, both great places to see when you are here. St. John's will be fully open in June I think, it'll be very cool.

Best Cheesesteak in Manhattan? Carl's on 34th and 3rd.

Go see a Jazz performance at the Time Warner building in the theater that overlooks Columbus Circle, I haven't been but have heard it's great.

Lotsa other stuff.

Today I went to the museum of natural history, walked out because it didn't look very interesting. I took a bus and went to the other side of central park where the MET is. Paid $10 and spent hours there. Worth the money
Then I met up with my sis and had dinner + wine at Momofuku Ssam Bar
$100 for a 45 minute dinner... damn nyc is expensive 🙁

Metropolitan Museum of Art
MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)
Chinatown
Times Square
Broadway

All of the cliche and touristy spots, you know the drill. 😛

all of the above are better than going to Statue of Liberty.
