Just curious on if any of y'all know of what a good MP3 player is while working out? I guess, the main thing is finding one that has an option to be worn with an armband or something like that.....I like the looks of the Rio 800 but am unsure if it would work.

Thanks in advance.

If price is of concern, get a new rio 500 off ebay for ~100 and throw in a 128MB card for a total of 196MB. The inlcuded belt clip worked very well for until I put the unit on the roof of my car and drove off never to be found. Had it over 3 years. The RIO 800 sucks. I am tellin ya, the 500 was and still is the best portable in it's class. (memory, size, etc.). It cranks up real loud too with some $15 Sony ear buds.

I am about to order an ipod 20gb for $499 to replace it.

I probably am the only one who read the subject line and thought, "I have a Pentium III 733MHz system in a full tower case that would be pretty good as both an MP3 player and for lifting as a weight. The Q500 case would be pretty good for weight-lifting."

What about the Samsung Yepp? There is a few of them that look pretty decent, and look suited to active people.

Haha, sorry man....I was trying to think of a good-way to get my point across. I am basically just looking for something that I could wear w/ my workout clothes (shorts and a shirt). I am getting tired of listening to the crappy songs on the radio station the gym has playing.

I personally use my PDA as my MP3 player while I am doing things such as working out and four wheeling.

Got to CNET and look at there reviews of them. Then go to the reviews people put up there. There are a lot of crap ones but some a pretty good and will give you an idea of what you will get.

I would just get an iPOD (of course the new 20 gig version) and duct tape it to my arm. :)

I have a solid state mp3 player for when I am at the gym. It might be a bit out of your price range though at $200.

The MPIO DMG. Its got 128 megs of internal memory and has a Smart Media slot to add more (up to 128 megs). The thing is awesome.

Unforunately, its a tad (and I do mean a tad) big for an armband case. And its a bit small for CD Player waist-belts. But I use a waist-belt with some extra stuffing just to keep it from bouncing around (annoying while you are running, not that it causes anything to skip).

Hope that helps.

I've got both a Samsung Yepp 30S and a Samsung Yepp 30SH. they are the same except one has 64MB RAM and the other has 128MB RAM. They are perfect for working out because they come with a armband.

I'm very happy with them, no complaints whatsoever. You can crank up the volume very very high, winxp compatible, built-in equalizer, very very small. They only bad thing I could think of is the program that comes with it. If you have it search your harddrive for music, it pulls up videos too and then you have to delete the videos from your song list. Kind of annoying, but after you delete the videos once, you will never have the problem again.

Besybuy sells them for $149 and $179

I've been using a Nomad IIc for a few months. For a solid state, it gets the job done for me. It has 64 MB of internal memory and you can add up to a 128 MB SmartMedia card to it. The price isn't bad, either ($129 retail).

However, I will soon replace my Nomad with a 5 GB iPod. I have a friend who works for Apple who finally convinced me to get one. There's NOTHING like that thing. It's only 6.5 oz., durable, and intituitive.

Just a warning about the iPods, I've heard that they're very susceptible to catastrophic failure during sharp impacts (i.e. dropping on floor, knocking with dumbbell). I would be worried about their longevity if your routine involves freeweights.

In the gym, I use a 3 year-old Aiwa Discman that is beaten to hell - old school, but it works. Only problem is finding shorts with pockets that are big enough as well as snug enough for the player.

One other tip for gym portables - the best investment you can make is to pick up a set of Koss Plugs; they're basically ear plugs with integrated headphone speakers - ear plug keeps the noise out so you don't have to crank the player volume (I don't go over 2 on the volume dial with the Plug, without, I'm around 5 or 6 and I am seriously lacking detail).

Erasmus-X- how do you keep the nomad in place while working out? Do you use a strap or something?
