I thought Jacob's Ladder was a pretty good movie as well, and the ending is open to interpretation.

some good recommendations in here.

if you guys are in the mood, pretty much any david lynch flick. but i guess those are usually thinkers, so go with one of the above (memento/suspects/brazil/seven)

cube is also surprisingly enjoyable, even for a SO.

Random fact. Did you guys know that saw was filmed in 18 days? That is probably the reason the acting was bad, especially toward the end. The guy who play adam is actually one of the directors/writers.

i had no clue about that. i knew it was some kind of indi film though. the guy who played the doctor was from the princess bridge and had some guest appearances on friends as well.

i don't remember him acting so poorly in previous jobs.

Disturbingly skinny. According to IMDB, the actor (Christian Bale) actually lost that weight (no special effects ;)).

The producers of the film claim that Christian Bale dropped from about 180 pounds in weight down to about 120 pounds in weight to make this film. They also claim that Bale actually wanted to drop down to 100 pounds, but that they would not let him go below 120 out of fear that his health could be in too much danger if he did. His diet consisted of one can of tuna and an apple per day. His 63-pound weight loss is said to be a record for any actor for a movie role. He since gained the weight back for his role in Batman Begins (2005).

The machinist was ok. Memento was certainly better, even though the ending was the biggest downfall of the movie. But, on the other hand, The Machinist was a lot better than other neuvo dark films like Trauma and The Jacket.

The Life of David Gale was an awesome movie. Definately has a good ending with a huge twist.

The Life of David Gale was complete garbage. Of all the movies recommended here, see that film last.
