You have much to learn, grasshoppah.

I highly recommend you check out Iced Earth if you like Maiden and Priest.

maiden is a good band.....but their sound doesn't really match their cover art :\

I stopped listening to metal (on a metal-head/head-banger basis) a long time ago, sometime in highschool. I have to say....I think one of my alltimes favs was Iron Maiden though....the older stuff, like powerslave, seventh son of the seventh son, etc...

I'll just add to what I didn't see in this list, or what needs more emphasis. Some of the stuff in here just ain't metal (KORN???? Nu-metal != metal)

Strapping Young Lad - especially their newest album. Mmmm. Saw them live about six months ago. OMG.

Nevermore - nobody has mentioned these guys yet... sometimes I wonder if anyone even knows about them. Check out their albums Dreaming Neon Black or Dead Heart In A Dead World.

Primal Fear - the best distortion sound I have ever heard. Ever.

Doh! Yes, indeed; I can't believe I forgot them. They are awesome, especially for being an American metal band :p
