Good low-cost earbuds?

I bought a $17 pair of Sony's about 2 weeks ago and the left one already crackles really bad if I turn them up too much, which is pretty much unacceptable. Is there a good set around that price range I can get that won't blow ass?

JVC Marshmallows for decent cheap ones or the Creative EP-630 if you're willing to spend $25-$30.

please dont get the marshmallows...i had constant headaches when i wore them. maybe my ears are just small. besides that, you hear every heart beat and every chord movement...so annoying.

I loved my Marshmallows! Lasted over a year (March '07 to May '08) with at least a good hour a day, and over the last five months, probably 5 hours a day use minimum. The left earpiece died just recently, so I'm going to be grabbing another pair when I go up later. I've also heard good things about the above mentioned Creatives, and will check them out soon as well.

They sound great for what I paid, and fit comfortably. I did the Kramer mod to them, and haven't looked back.

I own these and I love them. You cannot go wrong for the money and can probably find these for cheaper. I also own the Sennheiser HD497 and I enjoy the e2c much more even though over-ear headphones are considered to generally be better than in-ear.

The e2c's are very, very clear and the sound seems natural and uncolored. Acoustic guitars and King Diamond's falsetto voice really make these shine. They are more expensive than the headphones that other's suggested, however, if you're going to sacrifice your hearing (yes, all headphones cause hearing loss over time) you might as well cough up the extra cash and loose it to good quality sound. I'm a smoker so I would rather have my lungs destroyed with $9-a-pack Dunhill cigarettes than Maverick.
