Good low-cost combo: E5200 + G31 = $103

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks, keeping track of the Intel pricecuts, and also trying to figure what the sweetspot was for an overclockable cheap CPU.

The Intel E5200 has been stuck at $73 on NewEgg for weeks. Ewiz.com had it briefly for $67 shipped, but immediately dropped the free shipping.

Now ewiz has an interesting combo:
retail E5200 +
ASRock G31M-S
for $103 shipped

The same motherboard goes for $48 + shipping at Newegg, with good user reviews. ASRock

The combo would run you $128 shipped at Newegg.

Not a world beater, but a great second computer, maybe paired with the Radeon 4830 that Newegg has for $65 shipped. Microsoft Live adds another 3% off.

You can get three of these for how much i paid for my Q8200/GIGABYTE EP45-DS3L. Then again my Q8200 did come with a spare ECS G31-t motherboard.

Heck, for most people it would make a great primary computer. You should post this in the Hot Deals forum.

If anyone buys this, please post your thoughts on the board. Always interesting to find out if any budget boards can overclock or are suitable for low-rent enthusiasts.

Man im tempted to buy this combo just because its so cheap. I got a thermaltake lanbox at frys for 50 bucks a while ago with nothing in it. Was waiting for a good deal on something alittle higher end but damn this is cheap.

There is no $65 shipped 4830

You are probably thinking of the $80 4830 (+ tax for some) that has a $15 MIR

I have used three of these and they have excellent overclocking capabilities.

Biostar G31-M7 TE, $37 at newbiz.com

Yeah, it's downright scary how much computing power you can get these days for $100.

Yep. You could have had a Dell Vostro Slim 200 with E5200, 1GB ram, DVD-ROM, 80GB drive, etc. for $89 + tax shipped yesterday. Downgrade the processor to E2140 for $69 total. Add $20 for 250GB drive (instead of 80GB).

Didn't last long, but pretty damn hot for a good surfing system.
