Good lord... I have so much less respect for hicks...

You better watch the racial and derogatory terms around here.

I find the use of that word highly offensive and demeaning.

It's not racial...just stereotyping.

Fine. Then N, spook, dey-wop, WASP, beloved patriot, yard ape, chin-chin, jew-queen, towel-head, sand-jockey et all are fair game then?

I'm offended that you didn't spell out the N word, that's preferential treatment for er... you know who. 😉

The demands became more and more bizarre. When Ogborn says that when she failed to address Nix as "sir," the caller tells him to hit her violently on the buttocks over and over. At one point on the video, Ogborn was "spanked" for almost 10 full minutes.
OMFG! What morons.

Why does this have anything to do with hicks?

This guy did the same type of thing dozens of times, this is simply a reflection on the fast food workers of America.

Yeah I just can't believe people were that stupid. I hope to God this was a setup by the fiancee or something. At least that would show these morons had a coherent thought running through their head.

So if I grew up a hick and I always say that I grew up in Hickville when someone asks. Then, am I offending myself?

Try pondering that on a friday when you are waiting to start the weekend!

Back to the OP - yeah, that was pretty dang stupid. But you have stupid people everywhere whether they are a "hick" or a "redneck" or not.

Absolutely. Posting the story and commenting on it, fine. Making such a broad generalization on a group of people like that, not fine. And nobody should even pretend that the OP was alluding to the dictionary definition of "hick" because we all knew what he or she meant. You ruined a perfectly good thread by being a jackass.

Actually, this thread was ruined by all the uptight PC nazis.

Reminds me of a couple years ago when a Beverly Hillbillies reality show was going to come out. Some senator from West Virginia, Kentucky or one of those other states actually made a long speech on the floor of the Senate defending the hillbillies in his district. And he used the word hillbillies. REPEATEDLY. According to the anal-retentives in this thread, he should have been banned.

But calling someone a F** or Qu*** or the N word is racial? What is the difference?

hick
n.
A person regarded as gullible or provincial

gul·li·ble
adj.
Easily deceived or duped.

Hmmm. Dead on the money definition though.

Sure, that part is dead on the money, for someone who's manipulating the truth to cover their own needs.

Why don't you post the whole definition?

hick

adj : awkwardly simple and provincial; "bumpkinly country boys"; "rustic farmers"; "a hick town"; "the nightlife of Montmartre awed the unsophisticated tourists" [syn: bumpkinly, rustic, unsophisticated] n : not very intelligent or interested in culture [syn: yokel, rube, yahoo, hayseed, bumpkin, chawbacon]

Talk about ignorance. Any person can clearly see what use of the word hick you were using. You brought in the fact they were from KY, which only goes to prove you were not talking just about being gullible, but you were using it as a derogatory term about their upbringing and location.

Talk about ignorance.
1. I am not the OP and I did not bring anything about KY
2. That is not the "whole definition", that is the definition, and examples, of the adjective. I posted the full definition of the noun, which is the correct usage, and as used by the OP. For your edification, I will also now provide the dictionary.com example, though I did not and do not feel that it is necessary:
?New Yorkers had a horrid way of making people feel like hicks? (Louis Auchincloss).

Furthermore, the story in the OP is about several people in Mount Washington, Kentucky a town of 8,400 - who were so just plain STUPID that they engaged in that weird little striptease. The situation is the embodiment of any definition of the word hick, including, as you posted, "awkwardly simple" or "not very intelligent"

As for the synonyms "yokel, rube, hayseed, yahoo, and bumpkin", it is clear that if you think that every word in a thesaurus means the same as its synonym, you are not only incapapable of identifying the nuance of language, you are a yahoo.
