Good Lord, Final Fantasy XIII's file size is huge

Lol, is Spoony still around?
Yes, he's doing the Patreon thing now and it looks like he's making a good chunk of change. I really miss his video game reviews, or, I guess I should say his scripted videos, because his current videos seem to be unscripted and very drawn out, which makes them difficult to watch.

I've been looking forward to his FFXIII-2 review, but there's been no word of that for quite some time.

If you are pirating I doubt you are interested in buying. Plus caps. Not everyone has unlimited internet.

Still doesn't make sense. They bloated file size to prevent people who wouldn't otherwise buy the game from pirating it? Why would they target the segment of the pirating demographic that wouldn't buy their game anyway?

More plausible explanation would be that uncompressed video/audio provides some benefit to performance.

Pretty sure they just did uncompressed because they had a lot of space (BD-disc). The 360 was compressed as it had to be installed on multiple DVDs.

And the 360 looked hideous in cut scenes. And since this is FFXIII, it looked hideous.

Hideous? I'm pretty sure it was one of the best-looking games on PS3 when it was released. It has a distinct visual style that holds up even though the graphics tech has noticeably aged compared to current gen stuff. And most games still don't render hair as well as FFXIII does.

I'll say this much for Final Fantasy XIII, I'd much rather play this than any Call of Duty.

I guess reading comprehension isn't your forte? 😛

a) I'm obviously talking about the 360 port
b) I'm obviously talking about highly compressed cut-scenes
c) I'm less obvously (but not really) implying that FFXIII was basically running around to watch cut scenes
d) I'm not talking about the art style
e) Your reading comprehension blows

It looked like you made one comment about how FFXIII's cutscenes looked horrible on the 360, then made a broader comment about FFXIII itself looking hideous.

See 'e' and 'd'.

There's no reason for me to generalize at that point.

TBH, I also thought you were knocking FF specifically for poor graphics when you said "And since this is FFXIII, it looked hideous." I only got what you were saying after your explanation.

Not that I care either way. Simple miscommunication.

He didn't even have the "since" in his post. Without the "since", it seems more like he's referring to FFXIII in general. A little rude to accuse me of bad reading comprehension when he had to go back and edit it for clarity.

The last Final Fantasy game used full 1080p custscenes. Blu-ray quality, not Youtube quality.

I don't care for pre-rendered stuff, but I'm glad developers are getting out of the PS360 era and using the resources we have now.

To be fair, even the side-by-sides showing the PS3 and X360 were relatively competitive. The 360 was not as good, but did have better framerates and slightly worse resolution. It wasn't 'night and day' though.

If its a good game, you don't even really notice. 🙂
