Good, Long PS3 Games?

Any recommendations for a fun game to get that will actually last me a decent part of winter break?

Also, anyone have any recommendations for games with good sound?

Thanks

The longest game I played for the PS3 was probably GTA4 - and even after you beat it theres so much more you can do.

Fallout 3 GotY took me 70 hours to 100%, and I had played the game before 3 other times. It's so massive.

I don't know if you've played Oblivion or have it for the computer, but the Oblivion GOTY Edition with all the side quests would take up quite a bit of time. One of the GH or RB games could easily take up your whole winter break, but I'm not sure if you're into them. Too bad they pushed back the FF13 release date, because I think that would be a great way to spend winter break.

I had Disgaea 3 for awhile. Unless your a fan of the series its not really worth it. First, for a PS3 games the graphics are bad. For most of the game they used all the old textures from the PS2 game(s), and its a low resolution blurry mess. The cutscenes look good and the sound is good, but otherwise you really need to like the gameplay to like the game, and for the casual player it is a hard game to get into.

They were not recycled. They use the same character designs, obviously, but new artwork. The sprites are sometimes a touch blurry, I admit, but the game on the whole is actually rather sharp - and it runs in 1080p. But what the hell happened to gameplay is king? Who cares about the graphics if the gameplay is modern and fun?

Also, the sound is not "good", it's crap. They couldn't even be bothered to put in surround sound - it's all stereo.

Disgaea 3 is a superb, fun game. I actually like it better than D1 and D2. It has oodles and oodles of replayability, and substantial DLC. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes good SRPGs - I think it's a far better game than Valkyria Chronicles in most ways.

As I said, if you like the gameplay you'll like Disgaea 3. My argument is that if you've never played a disgaea game before D3 then your likely to walk into a situation you won't like. Obviously you are one of the many fans of the Disgaea series, and I think thats great, but it is a hard game to really get into for the average gamer. 😛

And many of the gameplay textures were recycled. They are the same resolution as the PS2 textures and if you use the sharpen features they turn blurry. The stuff that wasn't recycled, i.e. the cutscenese and conversation screens look great. Its no different than what happens when I apply AA to my PS1 games in ePSX.

Forgot to say I have mgs4 and gta4.

MGS4 really isn't that long though once you cut the cinematics out of it.

If you have PS2 backwards compatibility on your PS3, Okami is one of my faves. The whole game runs about 20-30 hours. One of the few long games I have that's not a simulator, racer, or RPG. It's also has excellent audio.

nhl10/fifa10 is what im digging right now.

Valk Chronicles is excellent. I need to check into disgaea most definitely.

echochrome is great for the rainy day. so is Pixeljunk Monsters, especially with a friend.

Does oblivion really suck on the ps3 compared to the PC? I played it on the PC before. Maybe i can find the GOTY edition really cheap, thatd be nice.

I did hear that fallout was freaking awesome though.

I prefer colorful/light-hearted games more, i gotta say.

If you liked Oblivion you'll like Fallout 3. Same crappy voice acting, same crappy graphics, same crappy storyline, same crappy side quests, same crappy dungeon after dungeon that all look the same.

I don't know about the ps3, but I had Oblivion on my 360 and it sucked in comparison to PC. Ignoring the fact that it took up to a minute to open a single barrel/chest only to find a spoon (probably a hardware problem), it looks worse and you can't mod it. I never really got too far into modding the game, but there are some mods that make a big difference.

ah, no thanks then. i modded the PC version a lot, i forgot about that. carry on...if i could find uncharted for really cheap i would get that, but i still feel like $30 for that short of a game, and a pretty old game at that, is excessive (considering i just dropped like $2.1k+ into a speaker system/tv). 🙁

Demon's Souls has a good length and lots of replayability. I currently have 50 hours on my copy which I got about two weeks ago.

Valkyria Chronicles is a great RPG that lasts a good while.

If you have backwards compatibility, there are a ton of long, quality PS2 games I'd recommend.

I can't bring myself to recommend Fallout 3 and Oblivion not on a PC, but they are options for long games. Personally, I thoguht vanilla FO3 was a good bit better than vanilla Oblivion (which I hated).
