Either pony up for a tivo, or pony up for Netflix. Or both!

Netflix? For DVD box rentals? That's hardly a way to watch them as soon as they're aired.

No commercials, watch them when you want, no waiting 8 months between seasons. Do you honestly care if you watch the show right away? Christ..

You can download Jericho episodes on the xbox 360 marketplace (for a fee)
Not that I'd buy a 360 just for that or even pay for the episodes...

I just called my ISP, they were all busy and will be returning my call. I'm curious which company made the original complaint.

You can see the latest episode from Fox shows here. Prison Break, 24, American Dad, Bones, etc.

NBC shows are here. Heroes, Friday Night Lights, My Name is Earl, etc.

I'm in the same boat as you. Stopped dl'ing tv shows cuz of a nastygram from cbs. I tried the online streaming version for Lost on ABC's website and it worked great until 16 minutes in when it locked up. Restarted it and tried to fast forward and the sucker locked up again at 16 minutes again. Grrr. I don't even mind the stupid commercials on the thing if it would work right. I think I'm gonna go get me a Tivo, so CBS is still not going to make any advertising money off me.

If you're going to download using torrents, at least protect yourself using an ip filter. It ain't perfect, but it does block a good deal of known bad IPs. I'll watch the shows on OTA HD, but my local NBC doesn't broadcast in HD yet 🙁.

EDIT:

how do networks get people from torrents? public trackers or they seed the files to begin with?

They can simply connect to the tracker like everyone else and get the IPs of people. Most likely aiming for those seeding the files. This is why you use an IP Filter like I mentioned above, it will not allow connections from those people so they never see your IP to begin with.

I'm at home on a cable business connection. I received a phone call on Friday that they want to "talk to me about sharing copyrighted material" and "wanted to help me take measures to fix the problem" since I am on a business connection. It didn't sound like I got infamous RIAA letter or fined. I haven't called them yet. I kept away from anything but TV shows for that reason although TV shows aren't exactly legal either.

I didn't know cbs.com had any TV shows posted there like abc.com does. I checked in the past and they didn't and assumed they still didn't. I might start working on a DVR box or something for the rest.

how about a 2nd internet line totally separate from your work's?

If you have Comcast digital cable with OnDemand, I believe Jericho is one of the CBS shows with the most recent episode available for viewing. I'm not 100% sure though--I don't keep up with that since I watch Jericho off the DVR instead (HD is betta!)

Pick up a used ReplayTV off of eBay. The service is cheap, 12.95 I believe a month. The HDD is easily upgradeable, and they have built in channel skipping. Very Nice!

Has the OP given a reason on why Torrents are out the the question yet? Honestly, what's the big deal?

To answer your question and a few others, they are out of the question because another strike and I am booted off of this ISP. Considering this is the only high speed ISP that's going to be available in this area for awhile I don't want to lose them. Also being cable they won't let me run a seperate line to my house. I have searched and found no perfect solution for the torrent idea so I dropped it altogether.

I talked to my ISP. Basically they said a company complained about me sharing copyrighted material. They wouldn't tell me who it was and basically told me to cut the bit torrent stuff altogether and they used the term "bit torrent". If I get caught again I lose my service with them and that is not an option. They also knew what client I was using to so that didn't improve my situation any.

A couple of friends told me to use them. Never used newsgroups before though.
