Good lean AIM alternative that supports direct IM and file xfers?

Getting sick of AIM and the stupid ads etc. Need a replacement that doesn't take 5 seconds to load but does need to support the standard file transfer and direct IM.

Do direct connections and file transfers work in Miranda? I'm using GAIM right now and direct connections never work.

How are log files kept in Miranda? Are they organized the same way as old Deadaim?

Directory\screenname\buddy

with the files as html?

Methinks there's a new tabbed messaging plugin for Miranda.

I don't use it for AIM, but it has been my replacement for YM for a cupla years now. Very lite. BUT, the YM file xfr is flakey at best. Not to worry tho, as there's a nifty FTP plugin that will FTP <somewhere> and then put a link to the file in the message window. Handy, of course if you have some ftp space somewhere.

Yes, there is a tabbed windows plugin for Miranda, but I don't recall the name though. It's something like SMMR, I think.

So far, I'm liking Miranda. I got plug-ins for a tabbed chat window, smilies, away message manager, and that FTP plug-in that SeTeS mentioned. It rocks. I have a few more questions though.

Is there any way to sort my buddy list by buddy status (away, idle, idle and away)? Also, when I put up an away message, my chat window is still visible. I'd like to have everything hidden away in the system tray and silent when I put up an away message. Is there an option hidden somewhere or a plug-in for that? Thanks!

That happened to me at first too. I had to go offline and back on once before it fixed itself. Now it works fine. I also had to have it hide buddies who are offline.

This doesn't support file transfers at all? Is there a plugin for that? I tried searching for it but I must suck at searching.

BTW, I got the buddy list thing working. Just as you said Igo, offline and back online.

I was able to do a file transfer with someone who uses Trillian. I haven't tried with anyone on the real AIM client yet. I don't know about direct connections either.

The FTP plug-in rocks though. It's definitely good if you have a website and plenty of space. I just FTP the file and the plug-in sticks the link in the conversation text box for me to send.
