Basically I was going to get the Asus LED that was $40 off last night but decided to sleep on it. My Max budget is $300. When I woke up the sale was over GRRR.

This screen has a higher rez. I will be mainly playing MMO/The Witcher 2 and Dragonage on it. Was using my 32 LG IPS TV but GF wants it for a TV! Boo

I want it to be at least 27", getting old and want a bigger screen currently using a 24" Asus (at work do not have model on me)

I normally get Asus LCD because there warrenty in the past was good.

1080p is going to look terrible @ 27" imho. I think it even looks bad at 24" (i use 19x12). Just my $.02 but look for a higher res monitor if you must have 27"

I disagree with LxMxFxD4. Resolution and screen size are not sufficient to determine how a screen will look. Viewing distance must be taken into account. My 32" 1080p TV looks great at 3' away. Also, by "getting old", I assume the OP means he can't see as well as he used to, which means that a high-res 27" screen would probably make his situation worse (unless he sat 1' from it).

OP, there's a huge thread at hardforum.com on the Hanns monitors. While some people like them, it seems that they have some quality issues. One of the main things is that a TN panel larger than 24" will start to look faded at the edges of the screen even when sitting directly in front of it.

I would actually recommend getting another 32" TV as your monitor (or get a bigger TV for the gf and take back your current 32"). I bought a Dell 2408wfp and found it too small for gaming even if I sat 1.5' from it (which then hurt my eyes as well). I bought a 32" 1080p TV for $380 (about the same price as the Dell), and I much prefer it to the 24".

Frankly, you'll want a 1080p TV for computer gaming. A 32" 1080p TV isn't much different in price compared to a 42" TV. If I were you, I'd probably buy a 42" (or bigger if you can afford it) for your gf and take back the 32" as your computer monitor.

The monitor the OP listed has a $30 off code that expires today, so you can still make use of it...

Thanks for the feedback. Not really old under 30 still. I just enjoy gaming on a bigger screen. Going from playing Dragonage 1 & 2 on my TV to playing them on my Asus 24" was just not as cool. Guys at work love there TINY 23" 120 HZ LCD they just back. But then again they play FPS more then me. For Everquest and Dragon Age I care more about the colors looking good then speed. Also plan on installing The Witcher 2 that been sitting on my desk for a week after I buy a new screen.

I was debating just buying a LED TV in the 40-47" range. I been saving for months and keep making my self wait. If I am shy a few bucks I can always warm up the CC ;)

Plan was get a second LCD for dual monitor and have the 24" for music apps/webpage while playing MMO's on the second screen or use both when 4 botting. Then output to the TV if I need to watch something bigger or netflix when gaming. I love to multi task (hell my job I do that all day long). I was also condiering going with 3 25-27" screens with a 6950/70.

For gaming from past posts there seems LED or LCD TV would not be a bad route to go I would just need to inch back abit from the screen.

When comparing different screen sizes, the following links are good resources:

http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html
http://www.carltonbale.com/wp-content/uploads/resolution_chart.png
http://tvcalculator.com/

The first one lets you input different screen sizes and viewing distances, and then it gives you info like the viewing angle. So, if you like sitting 3' from a 32" TV, you like a 42.3° viewing angle. The same viewing angle on a 47" TV can be achieved from about 4.5' away. However, the 47" would still look larger at the same viewing angle, but the viewing angle at least gives you good level of comparison.

You can probably figure out the other links on your own :)
