Good jump drive?

Looking to get a jump drive for easy transportation and for a secondary backup of some files. Was looking at this one on Newegg for $39.56 with shipping, has a two-year warranty, as well.

Good choice?

Yeah, I'd say so. A coworker of mine has the 128mb version and the transfer speeds are decent.

Just make sure that the drive you buy (if not this one) says High Speed USB2.0. There are varying speeds of USB2.0 and you don' t get the maximum read/write speed unless it is high speed USB2.0.

Its a pretty good choice, my friend has one. I myself have the Cruzer Micro (which is were than the Mini, both from Sandisk) which is a lot smaller and the casing is a lot stronger, it also doesn't scratch as easily. Of course its a bit more expensive, but I got mine for $30 at Circuit City on Black Friday.

It does say Hi-Speed USB2.0, it also says 15MB/sec read and 13MB/sec write, does that sound right?

Hmm, should I spend the extra on the Micro? It's only smaller length-wise, correct? And I found it for $43.98 on eBuyer.

Actually, I had the Sandisk Micro 512mb drive and was very unimpressed. The transfer speeds didn't seem much faster than my 128mb USB1.1 drive. I eventually got rid of it and went back to my USB1.1 drive.

You'd have to confirm it, but I vaguely remember reading the Mini benchmarked faster than the Micro in speed tests.

Eh I'm not concerned with portable music really.

The Mini is the one for $39.56 with shipping on Newegg. So I'm just trying to decide if it's durable enough and everything. Can I put the Mini on my keychain?

It is durable enough if you don't drop your keys on the floor constantly. However, the Micro is MUCH better for a keychain, the Mini seems huge compared to the Micro. I'm so confident in the Micro's durablity that I think it would survive and work perfectly if I ran it over with my car. Someone mentioned slow transfer speeds though, I don't have another USB 2.0 USB drive to compare, but it's fast enough for my needs since I keep mostly small files on it.

I have the micro. 512mb sweet spot in price. very fast compared to other 512 at this price point.

definitely consider this or 1gb counterpart. it gets filled up fast, in my experience.

I have both the 256MB Sandisk Cruzer Mini and the Lexar Jumpdrive Secure 1GB and I like both of them. I really liked the Mini but it didn't have a space for secure stuff so I just use it for transferring small files and the Jumpdrive is great since I have a Public and Private area. I know that it CAN be compromised but I'd rather have something to keep someone who finds it out of it.

Just my $.02...

sandisk good choice!!! I was about to get a 128 then i saw the 256 and the price was close then 512 for another 15 ish dollars. Still deciding.

Given the increasing size of files, and the decreasing prices of flash memory, I wouldn't go with anything less than a 512MB drive at this point in time. You can get the PNY Attache 512MB USB 2.0 drives for $50-60 everyday price at BJ's Wholesale Club, and similar or lower prices AR all over the place. (Closer to $30-40.)

Edit: I see that the Sandisk Cruiser Mini 512MB USB 2.0 drive is $40 no rebate at NewEgg, that's a decent deal. The PNY is a similar size to that one, although I think that the Sandisk is slightly thinner.

I have a 256MB Sandisk Micro. It replaced a USB 1.1 Lexar Jump drive and a USB 1.1 Nexdisk drive. It blows both of them out of the water, likely because of the USB 2.0 speed.

There's only one USB 2.0 speed: 480Mb/sec.

So would you all agree definitely get the Micro and not the Mini if I want it on my keychain?

Here it is for only $42.07!! Should I get it?

Never ordered from Buy.com before...

Got it today, in case anyone cares. EXTREMELY small and awesome. Highly recommended if you're ever looking for one.

Thanks, Azndude51, for convincing me to get the Micro!

Your welcome, I had the same reaction you did when I first got mine. Like I said before, I got mine for $30 512mb at Circuit City; my friend went over to Best Buy, I think and got the Mini 512mb for the same price. When I showed him mine, he was jealous as hell 😀

I know this might sound stupid, but...I can't figure out how the thing goes in the plastic case it comes with. It appears as though it's meant to slide all the way down into it, however there are plastic things at the bottomg purposely stopping it.

How are you supposed to get it in there?

EDIT: N/m, I see, the cap must be off. 😀

The big plastic protector thing should allow the tip of the USB connector to reach the bottom, I don't really know how to explain it. BTW, you can go to the Sandisk website, then to technical support, and you can ask for replacement caps if you lose yours. I did and they sent me them for free pretty quickly.

Wow, nice!

My only gripe is that you can't have it in the big protector while having the USB cap on at the same time. Not a big deal, though, I think I prefer just using the USB cap, anyway.
