Take the A train by the Duke is awesome some. Also, Caravan is another great song.

Also, what is the difference between Big Band and Swing? I'm a little hazy on my Jazz at the moment even though i took a course entitled "the History of Jazz."

I would think of swing as a subtype of jazz. Usually involves a "straight ahead" feel and it's good for dancing to. There are many types of jazz like latin, bebop, swing, dixieland, cool, acid, free, etc. I don't really know any other way of describing it other than saying it's a particular style of jazz.

I realize that they are both jazz. I just forgot the differences between the styles. I guess i would like to refresh my memory as to what jazz is considered swing and what is considered big band. Also, you can add Ragtime to the list of jazz.

Looks like i'll have to find my lecture notes on the subject.

Also, i got to see Maynard Ferguson perform like 5 years ago. It was really cool.

Sorry I was tired and didnt really answer the question right. Big band refers more to the band playing. Big band usually has 17 or so people in it and they are most known for playing swing. When people say "big band" they usually first think about people like Miller/Goodman and the swing music they played. Of course big bands don't have to play swing they can play other stuff too. And swing can also be played by small combo groups.
