Good independent films?

wow thanks for all the replies so quickly! I'm up for seeing foreign films too, so I'll take recommendations from that as well. I do have the Independent film channel, which I've seen city of lost children on, and also I saw "swimming with sharks", which wasn't half bad.

Boys Don't Cry, KIDS, Bowling for Columbine, SLAM, Rabbitt Proof Fence, Memento, American History X, all i can think of for now.

I also recommend seeing Adaptation. It's a Hollywood movie but is very self-referential, and my favorite movie in the past couple years.
