Good Idea? car alarm that calls your cell phone when it goes off.

I jsut thought of this. think it would be a good idea? If this existed, it'd let you know when your alarm went off and you could go turn it off instead of annoying everyone around it for the next half an hour. Also, it could call you when someone breaks into your car at 4:00AM and you could run outside w/ a 12 gauge in hand (I need a 12 gauge) and make sure the fvcker ends up in jail.

I think it'd be worth $10-20 month for the subscription that would have to come with it. Alarms are kinda useless when no one hears them, but this would assure you that you always heard it.

Would you buy it?

That would be combining the two most annoying things in the world....shudder...

Actually, in all seriousness it does sound kinda interesting.

I don't know about cell phones but I do know that there are some alarms out there that send a page to a pager.

I'd go for it. I'm not so worried about someone stealing my car, but more keying it or dumping a drink in the targa. Guess I should add that that is why I set it up to go off whenever the body of the car is grounded (actually it gives a warning, then goes off).

thats a GOOD idea... almost too good.. i can see the infomerical now.... with some dude in a black ski mask trying to steal a car... i really do think its not a bad idea at all.. i would probaly sign up... 20 bucks seems a little high.. i think 10 would be fair..

I think it's a good idea - No one cares when car alarms go off anyways. Don't some vehicles have devices like that - lojack, or a GPS locator?

$20/year sounds good to me....there's not going to be much activity on that network....probably should even be about the same price as a pager.

Back in the earlier 90's I had an option to add a paging module to my alarm (when I bought the alarm system). The device used it's OWN pager, and I'd say it was similar in concept to the restaurant systems. It'd work within a certain range of the vehicle. If you were too far away it probably wouldn't do you any good to get the page anyway.

I didn't buy it, was too $$$, but, they also warned that a clever thief could set off your alarm and then mug you when you come out to find out WTF is going on. Odds of that seem pretty low, not to mention, controllable too.
