Good HSF for overclocking an X2

Stock isn't that bad either, if you don't want to get above 2.5 GHZ. IMO, anything above 2.5 is overkill heh.

Edit: I'm talking abou thte 4400+ stock. With the 3800+, ya the big typhoon or xp90 or 120.

Yeah the Big Typhoon Works great for me, OC'ed to 2.6 on my x2 4400 and she is stable at 35degrees idle and 44 load

Cheers
Ben

Xp90 and 92mm Panaflo. I have 3 , one on each X2 core , and one on a 754 3200+ !

Maybe, but thats $80 ! For $30-35, you can have an XP90 (depending on which fan you get)

The stock that comes with the 4200+ or higher works pretty good. I get 51c with dual instances of prime 95 @2.618Ghz 1.475v. Idles in the lower 30s. XP-90 is good of course, and as others have said the Thermaltake Typhoon seems pretty popular as well.

Wow. I am very impressed with that Thermaltake. Why even bother with that Zalman when you can get the thermaltake for 30 bucks cheaper for the same performance just about.

I'm an XP-90 fan myself. The TT typhoon definitely is cooler, but it's quite a bit more epensive, and very heavy (around 800 grams. That's a close to 2 pounds). Plus the fact that it's raised off the motherboard - let's just say I wouldn't be comfortable with it on unless my case was sideways.

Good Point.

You should be able to find a "like new" used XP-90 w/fan here on forums for like $25-$30 shipped. I know because I recently had a WTB thread for one and got many offers. Id go for that. Theres alot of generous people on these forums selling stuff. I can direct you to a few people who offered me if interested.

The TT Typhoon looks like those fans that dried the lunchroom floor at school. I like functionality but how it looks is also a feature to some. The Zalman 9500 looks good, and one guy at the review posted said the 9500 has room for a 120mm.

You can get a brand new XP90 WITH fan from svc.com for $30 !!!!

Whats the difference between the XP-90C and the XP-90 besides the fact that one is copper. Does the copper one cool better or is the regular one better? I see the XP-90C costs $62 so I'm assuming its better.

Yeah I know, but they have been OOS for a while now. ALso, you can find used ones with good fans for $20-$30. $30 being the highest and thats shipped. SVC youd still pay tax(if you live in ca like me) and shipping. It makes it closer to $40, when you can find like new ones for $25 or so. 😛 I picked one up here that had a few slightly bent fins for $15 shipped. See my point? 😛 Just a suggestion anyways.

Yes it cools better, but not by much. Not worth the price if you ask me.

i think the rule for a good HSF is "The lighter the better"

*wink*

j/k...

i dont think the XP-90C is worth the extra money...if you need better cooling vs. the xp90, get the xp-120 (if it fits)

just my $0.02

So I should be able to overclock good with an XP-90 on a 3800X2? Sorry if I sound repeditive I just want to get it right before I buy. Which will be next month probably.

not very high...max you'll get is around 1.45-1.5ish volts depending on ambient, if ur satisfied with that...then ok

also u'll yank ur cpu right out of the socket one of these times...
