Good hsf for an AMD 2400+ to 2800+?

I was thinking about making another computer and it will probably be a 2400+ to a 2800+, on an Nforce 2 board, probably the Asus A7n8x or the Epox 8RDA/+, but I was wondering what the best hsf combo would be right now for these boards and cpus?

I know that the SK-7 and the SLK-800 are great heat sinks along with a good 80mm fan, but how comparable is the Cooler Master HHC-001? Or would you just stay with the Thermalright ones out there and go with the SLK-800?

The price of the Thermalrights are quite a bit and adds up fast, but if I knew that I could use it over on a new machine I might chance it. It just depends on how much the form factor will change for cpus in the future.

Well, I just made the purchase of an SLK-800 after growing tired of trying to deal with my Swiftech (Swiftech is a great cooling unit, but a SUPER pain in the A to mount and dis-mount).

After much exhaustive research (read about 100 reviews, I swear) the SLK 800 was the CLEAR choice of all the top review sites and personal opinions I have read. Better temps than anything else on the market and a ton easier to mount than the Swiffy.

Newegg has them for $36 right now and I have seen them as low as $30 at other places (But I always order from Newegg due to great service and fast shipping).

That's my .02. Hope it helps.

Newegg recommends the $20 Taisol for the 2800+.
The thermalright should work well but you have to find your own fan.
Others will work. I'd be sure it was copper or had a copper insert.

before I even read into the thread, I was going to suggest the CoolerMaster HHC-001
I have one with a YS-Tech 27CFM fan on it. quiet, and it cools well.

What do you guys think about the next gen of Zalman flower heatsinks (specifically the 6100Cu)? Sure they are expensive, but they are very quiet, with decent cooling in non-overclock situations.

There seems to be alot of differing opinions here so hopefully I can find out more from some of the sites reviewing hsf combos.
I am sure that probably any of these listed would be good choices but I would like to make sure it's going to last awhile if I spend upwards of $40.

My last hsf would probably not be sufficient even though it's not too bad (a Dragon ORB 3 with the copper insert surrounded by aluminum.. heh I know alot of people who don't like TT ORBs).

Alpha PAL 8045 isn't the best, you might have one and think it's the best, but the numbers consistently have the SLK-800 as the top performing heatsink.

I've always been really happy with Alpha PAL heatsinks. I still use an 8045. The only thing that I don't like about them is that there's been a decreasing number of motherboards that support bolt-mounted heatsinks as of late. They're also kind of a pain to remove because you have to physically pull the motherboard out of the chassis to unfasten the nuts holding the mounting bolts in place. On a cleat-mounted heatsink, you just use a flat-head screwdriver and PRESTO!

If you are not gonna overclock. A coolermaster or Thermaltake will do the job just fine. And they are quiet, too. I dislike most of the expensive HSF because they use Delta fans, and boys, those are noisy!!! Don't get me wrong, Delta Fans' air throughput is great, they're just too loud, that's all

I can't speak towards performance, but I have an alpha PAL and it's a breeze to attach--as one who (stupidly) screwed up a cpu by putting too much force on it because of the crappy spring on the crappier heatsink, I can say that screws are good, and that even my spring-attached alpha (three years old, i think) is far, far better than anything with a crappy spring.

I recommend screws.

for me the SLK-800 has been extremely impressive. I had to bend the tension clip when I got it tho because it was WAY too tight (making it way too hot), but once I got that squared away (which also made the installation much easier), it has been keeping my cpu mighty cool.

SLK-800 with a Tornado controlled by a Rhoebus would give you the best air cooling option IMO.

The SK-7 is also a good choice.

Hm, I've been using screw on HSF's (Swiftech MC462, and Alpha 8045) for about 2 years now, and I had no desire to switch until I came into this thread. :p

I now feel like purchasing an SLK-800 and replacing my Alpha 8045 with it. :Q opinions?

I switched from the Swiftech 462 before I went with the slk-800. I really enjoyed the screw-on feature because it allowed me to 'calibrate' the tension after installing it for the best results, but what can I say, the slk-800 dissapates the heat better and (and/or) allows for better cooling of the heatsink by the fan with its open finned style and relatively small base. I just plopped the same delta fan I was using on the swiftech and haven't looked back. Its $30 at svcompucycle.com now, which is an awesome price. :)

I think that the SLK-800 is a decent heat sink and with a good 80mm fan, it should work well. I think I'm going to get one and try it out cause it does have a smaller base and should work for awhile as long as they are making Athlon XP's (at least til the end of the Barton). The Hammer might not work with it, but for now the Thermalright hsf combo will do the job.

Has anyone had a problem with the clip around capacitors on their mobo? Just wondering cause my old Dragon Orb 3 leans up against 1 capacitor with the clip.

Dose the SLK-800 do much better than the AX-7?, I'm considering a switch when I decide to pick up a new T-Bred, is it worth it?

I have a Thermalright AX-7 with a Vantec 80mm stealth fan on it. I use ASIII w/it. It's very, very quiet and does a great job.

My XP1600 @ XP2100 (10.5x166) Idles at 42C and never goes higher than 51C. Typical gaming performance it sits around 48C or so. Can't beat that...well, you COULD, but you'd be noisy. :p

I'm running a 2200+ with the retail HSF and even under extended 100% load it never breaks 44C.

How much case cooling do you have? Those are nice numbers. :) I have one intake fan and one exhaust. Both fans are the 21db Vantec Stealths.

I don't know how it compare to other HSF but I am using the stock AMD heatsink and the huge Intel Xeron fan.
I am using Nforce2 w/ 1700+ TB @11 x 150 in a small desktop case and it never go over 45C
PS my system will overheat w/ stock AMD fan..

Well it's a Thoroughbred core (0.13 not 0.18) and my GFX Card is only a GF2 MX400 so it doesn't really heat my system. Anyway I have an Antec SX630II case with the standard fans > (PSU) and one exhaust.
