Anyone got a good site to recommend that would have a walk-through of how to install a second hard drive? Nice new custom-built machine, and now I want to add a 2nd HD. Already got it from an internet site, in my hand and ready to go and my friend down the road who was gonna do it with me ("no sweat") is now going out of town for a week. Sigh...

So, since I can install my own RAM, and install peripherals, it ought to be do-able if I can get a dependable set of instructions.

ABIT KT7Pro, 900 Athlon TBird, both HD's are IBM DeskStar 30GB, 7200, ATA100. Full tower, so there should be [plenty of room to move, 3 empty bays. CD and CDRW, so there will be some stuff to do with drive letters, I expect. Hopefully the instructions would cover setup stuff.

Thanks for any tips.

A bump for a good cause.

Yes, Felecha, "no sweat"....if you have done it enough. Hopefully, someone can give you a link.....hey, maybe Storage Review has something. Yep, they have this in their PC Guide....Hard Disk Logical Structures and File Systems.

LOL....I kinda feel for you. I can remember many hours spent with EIDE drives and the Partition Magic book, trying to figure out partition lettering and how it would change with a 2nd/3rd/4th drive added, primary partition, extended partition, and logical partitions.

I believe one of the members has an FAQ. Hopefully they'll see this. If not, email me and tell me what OS, and what you want to do. I would suggest that if it's Win9x, you put your swap partition on the second drive, since they are the same speed. Also, are you going to break the drives down into managable partitions? Hopefully, you will. And, you might consider keeping a hidden clone image of at least your boot partition on your 2nd drive, so you can easily restore it if you have problems. Drive Image by Powerquest will help with this.
