Good Headphones

I've gone through 3 of these in the past 4 years or so ( I think ), my third pair just died on me last week. I only had to buy the first one, as I had them replaced twice after that for free, and they all have eventually lost sound in one ear. It's something with the volume control on the cord, it gets loose and sound will go away in one ear, but it can come back if you hold the cord in just the right position. Anyway, I don't want to try to get these replaced again. Here's what they are:

I love them, but I wish they would last longer. Although, over a year of pretty much daily use before them dying isn't too bad, is it? Maybe I should get the same ones again because I love them. Anyone know of another brand of big headphones (not the flimsy trebbly ones with no bass) for around the same price? Thanks.
 
I've had good luck with sennheisers (my girlfriend and a friend of mine too)... but those are more than you're budget.

I went through a couple of pairs of crappy headphones before I decided it would be worth it to get a higher quality pair that will
1. sound better
2. last longer
 
I have three different types of headphones on me now

1) Shure e2c's
2) Sennheiser HD 570's
3) Plantronics Audio 50 (i think, like the one you linked but crappier)

1 and 2 i love dearly and they are the headphones i will use till they break. 3 i use mainly as a mike/teamspeak off a seperate computer bizdeal, and it gets the job done.

The cybercafe i used to frequent used the audio 90s and i thought them pretty damn decent. The HD570's are what i use at home and i think they are pretty damn good. They are around 75 bucks now i think, so a much bigger investment, but greater sound quality and i've had mine for 1.5 years now without problems. A friend has had his for 3 now.
PS: If you're looking to use them for gaming : the HD570's are highly noted as being pretty good gaming headphones. A lot of CS players like using them (me included)

just as their cheap $20 headphones get down to 20 Hz right? You can't trust a companies freq response numbers unless you see the geaph. If you know how this is measure you would probably be very doubtful that these could produce frequencies lower than most very high quality subwoofers on the market. In reality, they probably produce around 40 Hz without too much rolloff.
 
Sony products generally are overpriced, utilize the concept of planned obsolescence and are of low quality. While a few of their headphones actually aren't thought of as utter crap by the audiophile & headphone communities, they're still overpriced and prone to breaking, as intended. As such I'd recommend you don't touch anything of theirs, including their headphones, with a ten-foot pole.

For $25 your options are pretty limited. I would suggest dropping $60-$70 on a pair of quality headphones. This is the bottom range on entry level quality headphones and models like the Grado sr60s and Shure ec2s are well worth it.
 
sony headphones are a joke esp the sony mdrv600s (a hundred dollar pair of phones that sound little better than an alarm clock radio). Up your budget and get the grado sr60s.
 
try the koss PRO-3AA. They have a lower thd than most sennheisers at less than .1% and also have a 100db spl. Also, the freq. responce is 15hz to 20,000hz. Not too bad for 50 some odd bucks if you shop around. also, I may be wrong, but i think koss headphones come with a lifetime warranty. so as long as you dont get mad when playing your games and throw them against a wall, or hook em up to a big ass amp and blow the crap out of em, they should cover most stuff that happens to fail on them.
 
Every time I listen to my Sennheiser HD 202s I kick myself for having spent 5x as much on a pair of HD 555s. The 555s do sound better, but not $100 better. At $20-$30, the 202 is about as good as you're going to get.
That said, don't believe any numbers on these headphones - you've got to hear them for yourself.

You using an amp with those 555s? And are they burned in? What's your source?
 
I have these Philips HP-910's got em at Good Guys on sale for $50 bucks. WOW these things are sweet. They sound amazing, and are the most comfortable cans I've ever used. I have a big ass head so that shocked me. never spoke to another person who owns them, but I highly recommend them if you want good phones without breaking the bank.
