Good headphones for games / movies

I am looking for some good headphones for playing computer games and watching movies and tv on my PC. I will not be listening to any music unless it is part of the game or movie. Good simulated or true surround sound and bass seem to be the most important for games and moves. A mic is not really import for my gaming as I can just buy a clip-on mic for that. I don't care if I can hear outside noise, but it must block the sound from my game or movie from the people around me. Needs to be less than $100. My sound card is an Audigy 2. How are the Sennheiser HD448 given my requirements above. Any suggestions? What about surround sound headphones with multiple drivers?

Consider the Samson SR850 for $50 (very similar to Superlux HD668B). They're probably some of the best headphones I've heard under $100, and I would not have been surprised if someone said they cost $100-150. However, they are semi-open and as such might leak too much sound for your tastes.

Actually, just check out my recommendations in another $100 headphones thread that recently popped up in this forum section.

I checked out the other thread, but it was directed toward music where I am more focused on games/movies. Also I forgot one thing. It would really be nice if newegg carried them since I have a gift card there.

Also how much do the SR850's leak? Could I be watching a movie and have a person standing beside me make out the words?

the 448's are great. I have med/small size ears and I find them comfy for extended wear. If you have large ears you might not like them. I think newegg has them for $49 with free shipping (as of 1-6-2012) and amazon has them for around 50-60 most of the time. Great set of cans at the price range.

I've been impressed with the build and sound quality of the Audio Technica AD700. They are supposed to be one of the best headphones for gaming because of the large soundstage they produce. I have played quite a bit of battlefield 3 with them and I have been very happy

I have had the AD700s for a few years. Nice but make sure you have a big head (lucky me) or they might be a bit uncomfortable. Oh, and BF3 makes me loopy wearing a headphone.😛

+1. Listening to these now and they are great. I also enjoy the Sony V6's. They are great for when I want to block out sound.

Ugh, I hated these. Zero bass at all which detracts from the game for me. I felt the SR850s and DT880s have 90%+ of the soundstage with a much better experience.

The Samson SR850 sound awesome from what I have read. However I am worried about the sound leakage from them being semi-open. I have a supra-aural Plantronics headset from about 10 years ago. Has volume and mute on the cord. They were suppose to be really good for the money around $30 I guess. Good sound and mic for the price. I cannot find a model number on them or pic online. But do you think the Samson SR850 would leak sound more than the ones I have?

Is SRS Audio Essentials or THX TruStudio Pro really useful considering I have and Audigy 2? They sound like they would be better for older on-board sound.

That depends on what all the Audigy 2 driver offers. I owned an X-Fi Xtreme Music and it did the same as the the two programs I posted did. I am not sure how similar the Audigy 2 is.

Take a look at this thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=239405 See if it matches with the Audigy 2. If not then consider one of those programs.

You can also consider a Google search on Audigy 2 softmod or mod and see what pops up. Or even try Audigy 2 to X-Fi mod. I remember people figuring out how to softmod there older Creative cards to work with new software and get extra features and such awhile back.

Looking at the Audio Console, I see a check box for "Optimize 3-D effects for headphones when using headphones" and CMSS Modes can either be CMSS or off. So it seems it can do atleast some of the stuff. Right now the check box is checked and CMSS is set to CMSS.
