Hi

guys I have such a question, whats a good H2O setup for a reasonable price ? I know Prometeia is a good system, but $500 :)
what would you guys recommend in the $200 zone ? by the way I was looking at a corsair made system which is about 200, anyone know this system ?

also I was wondering how much would the cpu be affected ? I mean -52c is a bit scary :)

please let me know

Thank you
Dan

Well, w/o extreme measures, -52C isn't going to be attained with a watercooling kit alone. A peltier is needed in conjunction with it.

But, I would recommend hitting Dangerden or Dtek's websites and looking at their stuff. A heatercore radiator, an 80 or 120mm fan (depending on radiator size), a Maze3/4 waterblock and a waterpump. They sell pre-designed kits as well, or build your own.

I built my own for around $100 and my P4 2.4C is at 3.2 right now and runs at 33C idle/39C full load. Not too shabby and I have a single 120mm running at 7v so it is very quiet and still cools well.

well thats cool, I dont want to go that low anyway, too affraid of condensation

you built it for 100 ? wow thats cool ! nice built too, 33/39 are nice temps
by the way what did you have before ? I was also wondering whats the C difference between one of these kits and a high end air cooler

Thanks
Dan

P.S. do you have links for those 2 websites ? dont bother with the html code, just copy and paste

Just curious is there a way to reduce or get rid of condesation caused by a peltier?

I ordered stuff from all over the place. Look at various places for the parts. Some websites will run sales you can take advantage of as well.

I got a Maze3 waterblock....heater core radiator.....pump from a local store.....hose from a local store.....fittings local as well. Fan I had laying around...

Maze3 - $40
Pump - $27
Heatercore - $35
Fitting/hose - $12

I paid slightly less than that for most of this stuff b/c of ebay and sales....but that gives you an idea of what to look for....

With a retail hsf I was pulling 50-53C idle....that was why I went back to watercooling.....couldn't stand the high temps. Maybe I didn't have the hsf seated well, but I didn't use anything else other than the thermal pad attached to the hsf stock. Under the waterblock is just a cheap zinc oxide paste I get locally as well.

feel like going hog wild? get one of those prometerias:) http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20031021/index.html

awesome stuff

but for water cooling the best temp you can get theoretically is room temperature, not -52 unless you live in a freezer;) the water has to give up its energy through the radiator to the air, and that stops happening when a radiator reaches the same temp as the air, just like any heatsink.

if your going low noise, get a large case so your drives and other stuff aren't cramped and require more noise making fans.

Hi

I would in a second, but only if someone shows me a place to buy it for $200 :) because 500 or 900 for M2 is way too much for me

room temps sounds ok, however I was wondering would a SP94 or a SLK or any other great HSF do the same ? or close ? asking because I read a review somewhere and the C/W between the watercooling setups and high end fans were very very close

well I hope for low noise, but I dont know if I'll get lucky, my dvd rom alone is a great source of noise, its also high pitch noise, one of those that will give you a headache, funny thing is that it does it at idle (when Im not even using it, I just dont see why would it have to turn that damn cd if Im not using it) oh well I better stop :)
(oh by the way its a pioneer not some cheap brand)

Thanks
Dan

well thats a stock HSF :)
however a high end $50 HSF should do much better, I wonder if it will close in on watercooling setups

I can't speak from personal experince cos I've never used one. But the Koolance EXOS reviews I read loved it. The price is low, grandit you probably wouldn't want to hook it up to a 40 dollar case, you could techically have a great setup for around 250 buck. OH and you can buy them at CompUSA no? I'm honestly thinking about getting an EXOS for my case, or getting a complete Koolance setup with the case included (with the fanless power supply)

for the price you can't go wrong. And I trust a brand I can actually walk into a store and check out before I buy it.

Ive been looking at going into water cooling also. Check out Coolerguys.com. 120 for the swiftech kit. 50 for the cpu water block . Thats my current plans. If anyone has any experience with the swiftech stuff leave a post. Trying to see if it would be better to go with the danger4 kit. I think I saw it somewhere for about $20 cheaper than the whole swiftech setup.
