:( I need to rant about what has happened trying to buy a new sound system. First off I am replacing a system that it 20+ years old but I bought a set of Klipsch Hersey speakers that still RoOCK for playing music so I figure that I will buy a Kenwood VR 507 that has all of the features that I want for the new 5.1 surround to drive my new Klipsch Qunitet system complete with the sub wooffer. This unit has a A / B switch for the speakers. Works ok except you do not have a way to turn off the Sub Wooffer on the B side. So I take it back and the guy up sells me a Dennon AVR 1801 nice upgrade and I was told that it will truly split the A / B speakers, but wait the longer the system is up I get a low level hum from the speakers. I play with it for an hour and discover that if I turn off the display pannel the sound goes away. So off to Good Guys and the guy tries to sell me a power conditioner to clean the up the hum. Wrong I tell him that no way am I buying something to cure something that shoulden't happen in the first place. Now here is the good part, the A / B side speakers are NOT split. You can have the A side with everything or the B side with just the Hersey's but you still get the sub for free. You can't turn it OFF!!!!!
Now I leave with a Yamaha Rx-V520 at least this is sideways on the price and get home I open the box and to my supprize NO ability to plug in the PHONO! did I mention I still break out the vinyl from time to time I still have not worn out my second copy of Dark Side Of The Moon. So... back to Good Guys and the guy wants to sell me an adaptor for the phono and I tell him that BOTH of the other units had the phono built in and that is how I want it to be. Well now it is time for the upgrade to the Rx-V620 a $100 upgrade they take pitty on me and give it to me for $48 more. I get it home plug it in and set the speaker switch to B side only and go through the setup menu and how about that the A side is off and the B side has only my Hersey's and they sound great. Ok so I turn off the B side and setup the A side and the Quintet system sounds GREAT. But wait I turn off the A side and switch over to the B side and NNNNNNOOOOOOO everything is SNAFU. It seams that the A / B switch only lets you choose to play the A side with the 5.1 setup and another set of main speakers on the B side in another room or both but in no way can you split the A side to have 5.1 surround and B side to have a second set of main speakers work WITHOUT the surround $hit. Now what???????:(:(:Q:|:|:|

Millhouse99 you are right but I trusted my sales associate to know what they were talking about. It was my fault that the sales staff at The Good Guys were incompitent. Not to mention if you read the manuel for any of these products they do not mention that the B side is just another option for the main speakers only.:Q

Which GoodGuys was this?

Seems it might be worth a drive to Sacramento. I know they have a lot of open box stuff now.

;)

:D

So, the moral of the story is RESEARCH your product before you buy . . .

I did check out the features before I bought them. I looked in the manuels and read them. All they say is that you can have two sets of speakers on the A side and the B side but it is the part that you get the sub for free is what they don't tell you! They are about as clear as a dirty bucket of $hit! And the people at the store do not know their a$$ from a hole in the ground.

Now I'm getting steamed again! But i do thank you guys out there for letting me rant!!

I'm still in the drivers seat on this one they will refund my money up to thirty days after the purchase if I am NOT satified. :D:)

Edit: The Florin road store for those of you that want to know.

Unless you are in an "audio" store, the salespeople are generally more knowledgeable about sales (profit, margin, commission, etc.) than audio and product information.

Just a fact of life (unfortunately).

You are right but at Audio/FX in Sacramento they have a real nice ARCAM AVR 100 that is only $1000. All I need to do is come up with the other $500+ and I will be ok.

See thats just it Klipsch still makes the Heresey's and they retail for $750 each. I bought mine in 1979 for $285 each and they still sound better than anything else. The guys at Audio F/X want me to bring them in to hook them up to the ARCAM th see how they will match to the B/W speakers that they have.

Holy Cow its 11:20 I have realy got to get back to work:Q

Thanks for the rant It has helped!:)
