No, the front bays are for 5.25" devices. The case includes a 4-in-3 module. This module takes up 3 front bays and can hold 4 3.5" hard drives.

That's an outstanding price for that case. I think it looks better than the black/silver one. SVC does charge a lot for shipping especially if you're on the east coast, but it's still a very good deal if you get the rebate. I got mine from http://www.isitoday.com for $140 shipped back in May (the case was $130 but the shipping was only $10), although it looks like they're sold out now.

How thick is the metal of the case and how does it compare to high-end Antec cases? It is made out of aluminum. I don't want a flimsy case.

It actually uses aluminum for the side panels and front bezel and steel for most of the interior. The side panels are fairly strong but a bit prone to scratching. The steel parts are very thick, IIRC 1mm in some areas and 1.2mm in others. I think its main attractions are its cooling performance and customizability. You can configure it in almost any way you want (two PSU slots, tons of fan positions and airflow grills, an invertible motherboard tray, and the front ports and hard drive cage can be moved around).

Edit: Choosing super saving shipping yields a $1000.36 shippping charge making the total $1100.35. Way NOT hot.

Not trying to be glib, but it's true. If you're asking how well it handles vibrational noise or how well it dampens noise, it's probably very good. A friend built a PC with this case last week and I assisted. Very solid in construction but the final product was tested while sitting on carpet, so it's not ideal for me to make a judgement about how well the case actually handles noise (carpet dramatically muffles vibrational noise).

On the front my CM Stacker has 6 USB + 1 Firewire ports.

Best (coolest, highest quality) case I've owned by a mile. Thought I got a great buy at $150 about 18 months ago, so $80 is a killer deal. Guess I'll buy another one.

If you buy, be sure to also buy the extra side fan, which noticeably improves cooling.

I started out w/o the side fan, then added it & temps went way down. That special fan cost me $27.99 at the egg, but it appears the egg doesn't sell them anymore. Still available elsewhere though.

Why do folks like this case? It only has room for 4 hd disks? How many folks have 11 optical drives? Or do you all use adapters?

Well, you can *buy* a 4-in-3 module. I have two stackers, and one has
6 hard drives (5 raid + 1 os), and the other has 6 hard drives (1 linux, 1 windows, 4 data). There are not many cases that can do a decent job of cooling 6-8 hard drives. If you know of a cheaper one, I would really like to know about it. There is the antec p-180, but it maxes out at 6 hard drives, and it has those clever sleds for the top 2 hard drives that cover the bottom of the hard drive (the hottest part), which will limit cooling. Perhaps I am overly cautions, but I like to keep my hard drives cool. And for those that ask, yes I have 10k and 15k rpm scsi drives.

I think the coolermaster stacker is a bit complex, heavy, big and expensive, and could be quieter, but it is unsurpassed if you have more than 4 hard drives you want to keep cool.

It is a superb case for DIY watercooling. I had all the components installed internally, and the installation process is pretty painless. There is still room for expansion.

This is the ideal case if you are building a file server. You can get 5 in 3 modules that support 5 hotswap SATA disks in 3 5.25 in slots. That means 15 drives in a case like the stacker, and the stacker provides the ability to do fantastic cooling to keep all those drives cool (very important if you care about reliability).

This is a great price on a great case. I like it better than the Stacker 2.

Where do you get these 5 in 3 and 4 in 3? The only ones I've seen at newegg are lian which are 30$ a shot.
