I tend to say something like:

"I was paid a very competitive salary given my experience, plus additional performance bonuses. If it would be ok, I'd like to discuss more exact numbers later if I am indeed offered a position."

But what you said was ok too I think. Most professional interviewers should expect a similar response. The fact that she reacted the way she did tells me that she probably hasn't done a lot of interviewing.

rofl, no. I'm in project mgmt.

Just like the parking lot atmosphere they have going on? ;)

I wanted to be in absolute seclusion. If I stayed in my company parking lot, coworker or boss may walk by / drive by, certainly causing a distraction.

Most professional interviewers wouldnt ask that question.

I''m assuming I should still send her a thank you letter reviewing the interview and highlighting my skillsets despite it being a phone interview, right?

Answer: I have actually given phone interviews while working from home. While not wearing any pants.

I got you.

Okay, not bad.

I do mine at home (without pants, of course) for maximum relaxation. ;)

This is always the case; if indeed your are interested. Highlight what went well in the interview, why you like the company, why you want to work for them, why you're a good choice for the company. Keep it short, no more than a long paragraph really. Just a quick email to let her know you're serious and to remind her of what a great candidate you are for the job.

Indeed. This is why I recommend to people to take interviews for roles that aren't their perfect match. It is better to mess up a role that you aren't 100% sure on then to bomb at your perfect role! Hopefully you can learn from your experience and improve for the next interviews.

That must be an American thing. I have NEVER sent a thank you letter to any of the places I have interviewed at.

I have never had a telephone interview.

Also to note, even if you think you did not do 'that great' they may have gotten a good impression out of you. I had my 2nd interview at an iBank and it went 'okay', thought it could have gone better but it was simply 'okay' so wasn't sure if I would be invited back. I smashed through the 1st round with the two managers and was pretty sure I would get a 2nd rounder. But the 2nd rounder with the 2 technical guys was different. They didn't seem that approachable. The feedback from the recruiter is that it was still good and they are still keen
