Hey guys, (im new around here ;P) i just ordered some new parts i hope i can get atleast 8000 on 3dmark05

DFI NF4 SLI-DR
Mushkin PC-4000 (redline 2-2-2)
BFG 7800GTX
OCZ 600 Watt Powerstream
AMD 64 3500+ Newcastle

What case would u guys suggest, i was thinking either Lian-Li PC-65B or PC-60B Plus
Also would it be silly to get a 3200+ venice core to overclock futher then my 3500+ (i already have the 3500+ i just ordered the mobo, ram, video, psu this weekend)

If you already have the CPU, just go with that unless you really wan to burn money.Looks awesome, wish? I had that kin of cash (or that it wasn't all going towards books)... Have you looked at the seasonic S12s? They are supposed to be silent and have really high efficiencies. OCZ is great too, its up to you.

--Edit--
Do you really want to spend that much on a case? I would just get something cheaper with adaquate cooling. Of course, Lian-Li makes excellent cases, they are just above my price range...

If you can sell the 3500, then get a Venice and OC that way past the 3500+ speed.
It seems a waste to me to get that DFI board and not OC with it, but you shouldn't just "throw away" your current CPU either.

Other than that, the system looks great.

A couple things. First, I'd suggest downgrading the PSU. It is obscenely expensive and completely unnecessary. You can attain similar extreme overkill with a quality 500W model, and a high degree of overkill with a quality 400W PSU. Second, what monitor are you getting?

Agreed.

I have the P95F+B 19Inch Pro Viewsonic, also i only spent around $1300, $620 on the BFG, $200 on the mobo, $200 on the PSU, $190 on the Ram, and i can get the case for $140. I sold (2) 2600+ MPs for $400, and my Radeon X800XT (AGP) is on sale for $250 (anyone interested in my old video card? lol) and some other stuff, so i only spent around $150 to upgrade. and Yea i want to sell my 3500+ for like $180, but noone bid on it on ebay last week lol

Thanks for the advice guys 🙂

and oh yea, as for case, i dont think lian-li is that expensive, you get what you pay for, i just threw out my Lian-Li PC-75B because it was 4yrs old, and i dont need a full tower case anymore, i used to have 6 HDs and 3cd roms and 2 5 1/2 bay items.

me again, ive been reading that BF2 uses up to 2gb of ram, would i hit a performace drop in overclocking if i got another (2) 512 sticks of that mushkin memory?

Yea. 2gb will benefit in the long run. Are you sure you wanna buy the 7800. You can just wait for Ati cards or just get a ultra or a 6800 gt. Both cards can run games with no problems. The 7800 is an overkill. IMO

I had a X800XT AGP, i think a 6800GT would be downgrading? and i want a better videocard, i dont mind spending $620 on a video card, i can get like $200~$300 for my Radeon, i have some speakers on ebay for $200 and my old mobo for $100 on ebay so that pretty much evens it out.

BF2 doesn't use 2GB of RAM if you aren't running a server. Last time I checked, it was using somewhere around 500MB for the client.

I don't know what EA was smoking when they came up with the requirements for BF2; I barely meet the minimum requirements and it plays smooth as butter with everything on Medium, 1024x768, 2xAA, and draw distance @ 100%. No choppiness at all with 40+ players.

I've seen a lot of people upgrading specifically for this game and it seems like a giant waste of money.

Unfortunately, you have a Newcastle cpu, which means you can only run at 333 MHZ/2T if you get another couple sticks of 512MB RAM. Personally, I would go with 2 1GB sticks with decent latencies instead.

It seems that you are upgrading your whole PC, which currently is above average performance-wise, to accomodate a 7800GTX. The GTX is more of a refresh than a whole new video card and I think you would be disappointed unless you use high-resolutions when gaming. That's not to say the GTX isn't faster than your 800XT - it most certainly is - but I think you'd be disappointed with the end result.

I think you'd be happier upgrading to a dual-core X2 than the 7800GTX. And that upgrade shouldn't require a whole new mobo, PSU, etc etc.

The 7800 offers some nice IQ features like transparent AA, beyond being the fastest card currently available. If you are the type that only upgrades every couple of years, I would definitely go for the 7800 instead of a lesser card.

BF2 does not use 2GB of ram. But it does use more than 1GB. You will notice an improvement going from 1GB to 1.5GB. You will not notice an improvement going from 1.5GB to 2GB.

Well, 2x1GB would allow dual channel which would have a performance boost. I would stick with 1 GB for now, if you do notice lagging, then think about 2GB...
