i work at best buy and this is a laptop they dont even put on display

it is the Gateway 7422GZ and runs $1399.99 with no rebates and is a:

Athlon 64 3400+
1 GB memory (pc3200 i think but not sure)
Radeon 9550 (64MB dedicated)
80 GB HD
15.4" Widescreen Ultrabright WXGA (sharpest looking screen of any laptop ive seen)

also, they do not put a lot of the models on the website, so this is in store only

radeon 9550 isnt bad at all for a laptop vid card. But still, it is the price of this that makes it such a good deal

Indeed. I'd rather import a Asus M6N. Radeon 9700 128meg, 15.4 WSXGA+ (notice it's a higher res screen), Oh, and it's not a TANK. Granted, it's a few bucks more.

the older acer laptop has radeon 9700 pro, does any1 know or tested this laptop on graphic intensive gaming yet? and how does it performs on those games? Please post if you know.

i have ran Rome:total war and Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat on the laptop and it performs almost identical to my desktop

desktop specs:
9800 PRO
P4 3.0 C
MSI PFISR NEO 2 Mobo
1 GB dual channel 2-3-3-6 DDR400
36 GB raptor HD

i find that very hard to believe that it runs the same as your desktop.. you might wanna see whats wrong with your desktop system.

like i said, ALMOST identical. It gets to a point where a game can demand no more, and i think both pretty much reach that point. If it were HL2 or something like that, yes, i know my desktop would outperform the laptop

whats the sku, i found nothing in rss or toolkit. the 9550 is almost the same as a 9200 nothing impressive. other emac's and gateways have the 9600 which is better.

yeah, this just stands out because of the gig of ram. the 7405 was almost the same with the 9600 but had only 512... it is in RSS but not on the website...I only saw it in the laptop cages

TOTALY WRONG.

9550 is VERY close to a 9600

Yeah, laptop != gaming... that said, if you look around you can get a lappie with a 9700 for less...

I agree with those who point out the weakness in this system, the video. I recently purchased a similar laptop with only half the RAM but with a 64MB MR 9700 for $500 less then this system. Everything I throw at it plays wonderfully. After I did some research I found that the MR 9700 only has 4 pipeline (vs the 8 for the 9700 desktop model (of well). Fortunately, the vid card is removeable and upgradeable to a MR 9800!

IMHO this is not a gaming laptop, it is a laptop that you can use to play some games. Thanks for the post OP though.
