Good game review site that hasn't gone coporate

Does anyone know of any good game review sites that aren't all corporate-ified. I know about the standard review sites like gamespot and gamespy, but I am looking for some more independent types of sites.

Gamerankings and Metacritic also have user reviews. Aside from that, you'll just have to look for blogs that review specific games. It costs a lot of money and time to properly review every new game.

I just follow the links on bluesnews, but 90% of them are to corporate sites these days...

Fike, I share your concern about the lack of independent game news sources. My old favorites are pretty much gone now.

You're probably already aware of http://www.gamefaqs.com It's not exhaustive, and does contain links to a lot of sponsored reviews and such, but for games already released I usually flip through the user review section for games of interest. Also you might like participating in a community like http://gametz.com/ Again, it's hit and miss, but still possibly worth keeping on radar.

Just wait a few days or weeks after a game's release, then ask around the net. You'll quickly get a pretty good idea of whether or not the game is worth the money to you.

Dude game review site means crap all... You want to some trusted review , you need to know if the editor knows crap all about what he is talking about and what genera are they good at reviewing. Example , Gamespot maybe a cooperate website but they have some very knowledgeable editors like Jeff G who does excellent Fighting , Platformer and action adventure games. Another good editor would be Shane B from egm who does excellent Fighting and RPG review , he sucks at FPS , RTS .. ect. Greg K : RTS , RPG and FPS. Now some editor suck at reviewing any game like Jason O ... most horrible corporate editor would i know work at places like IGN and 1up. Out of all the major corporate game website i would say gamespot have very good editors and excellent review system.

Avault, 1up and strategyinformer are three sites that I visit for game reviews. They all have honest and to the point reviews. Gamerankings is king, of course.

you get to know who's opinion you trust and whose tastes are like yours ... lots of knowledgable gamers with no corporate or Guerilla marketing ties.

Gamespot does seem to be okay, but I can't help but think that they are pretty caught up in the vogue games. I am not generally into FPS games, but that seems to be all the rage these days. The games that have been my obsession generally fall between fantasy RPG and fantasy or medieval strategy. These categories don't seem to be the most popular these days.

I enjoyed stronghold immensely, but I yearned for something cool in that game like perhaps a dragon or a horde of orcs. To get that stuff you need a fantasy RPG or some such game.

The game review sites I used to trust many years ago all suck these days. 🙁 I generally just go by Metacritic, which gives an average of the scores from many review sites.

Avault was very good some years ago but they don't seem to review stuff that often anymore.
