Good game controller?

I have been using MS sidewinder for years. It is good, but I wish it had more buttons. Anyways, what do you guys suggest for a good USB game controller? I play everything, however, it will be mainly used for playing older console games with emulators(i.e psx).

I like the 360 wired controller, but for old snes games, I also use my PS3 controller due to the better dpad.

I was going to say just get the 360 controller cus it is the best for newer games cus they all have built in support for it but since you're playing older psx games, I'd get something similar to a psx controller. I have a PS2 controller with a usb adapter for older games cus the dpad is better than the 360 pad I use.

I've never had much luck with generic pads, I'd say the 360/PS3 controllers are your best bet.

I've used and enjoy both an XBox 360 controller and a Logitech Rumblepad. I give the edge to the 360 controller.

I have a Thrustmaster dual power game pad that I've been using for 6+ years . Plays every game I every had just fine. 12 buttons and 2 analog sticks.

Going to have to go with the 360 controller here. Guaranteed to work with everything. If you don't want to spend a lot, go Logitech.

I am using this XBOX 360 Wireless Controller, only $40 bucks. This controller is red with black outlining and it looks extremely nice. Also comes with a play and charge kit so that if you don't have any batteries you can use this as an option. Really love the controller.

I'd go with almost everyone else's recommendation - the Xbox gamepad seems to be a good controller all-around, and I'm going to use it as my controller for my MAMEbox/HTPC w/ the messenger/keyboard attachment . . . I hope (?)

Well with that you have to buy the wireless adapter to get it to work so for most people it makes sense to get then wired one for $30.

360 controller, although I like the wireless variety.

Wireless 360 controller + receiver.

Then you can use the 360 wireless wheel, 360 guitars, etc and all will work.

Logitech Dual action. Cheaper than a 360 controller and has a better d pad. No analog triggers though.

I have a Saitek Rumbleforce (which has never once rumbled) that I like a lot. Nothing you get will have a Dpad that's as good as the Sidewinder, but it works pretty good. 2 sticks, 10 buttons and kind of like and oversized PS controller.

If you're planning to play old Playstation games, buy a PSX->USB converter and use a PS controller. I got one at radio shack for $5.

logitech cordless rumblepad 2 - 9/10, maybe more. excellent reception, totally customizable buttons, 2 AA's last forever, very similar to a playstation controller.

I like the xbox 360 controller, but the d-pad sucks ass; they might as well have just made it a third analog stick for how it works.

I have a MadCatz 360 ripoff controller that works great, and was less $. I replaced the Logitech Dual Action because the left joypad went wonky and during driving games would no longer let the cars track straight, no matter how hard I tried.

thirteenthed on the xbox 360 controller. I have the wireless receiver because I like using the MS wheel on PC racing games. But the wired one would probably be just as good.

I'm thinking either the wired 360 pad if I find it cheap, or Hori's 360 pad which I'd have to import. Reportedly the Hori analog sticks are just a little bit worse than the MS analog sticks, while the pad is very good and MS's pad is terrible, which sounds reasonable for my use profile. I'm primarily considering 360 controllers so that I can also use them on the console; wired controllers, because there's a great custom driver for them but not for the wireless.

You can use the wired controllers on the console too.

Best controller has to be the ORIGINAL XBOX Beefers. FITS HANDS PERFECTLY, the analog triggers are TIGHHTTTT. and THESE THINGS CAN BE DROPPED FROM BUILDINGS.

You can use the wired controllers on the console too.

I know. Both the MS original and the Hori are wired.

There are instructions out there on how to mod an original XBox controller so it has the original plug-in and a USB plug-in. It's just a simple solder job, matching colored wire to colored wire. This page has step by step instructions. I actually didn't chop the whole end off, but just soldered the USB part into the XBox part to create a double plug-in so I can still use it on my XBox. You can find a cheap XBox controller at video game stores. You need drivers for the controller, but the links are on that page.
