Support Email:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your Comcast High Speed Internet service.

I do apologize for your connection issues. Comcast does not support onlint
gaming.
Pings to gaming servers will be higher as more people use the servers.

I have gone over the trace you sent in and can find no problems on the Comcast
network. The highest ping on the Comcast network is 139 ms and is an accepatable
ping time on the Comcast network.

Comcast does not credit for slow speeds or intermitant connections.

Onlint eh? Someone needs to proofread better. And that is a load of crap, what do they expect people to do with their $45 collection?

i had charter for my cable, and we get nightly spikes from 7pm-11pm every night, can't play any
games whatsoever during that time, i called and complained 2 mos straight, the 3rd month came and
i called in and disconnected the service, after my dsl was up and running.

what comcast did recently was install a new router of some sort which now trades consistent horrible latencies (150-350ms) from 6pm-12am in exchange for inconsistent ping spikes / timeouts during the same prime time period.

thanks comcast.

im in california and have had no problems at all apart for the DNS issue which cut out my connection for about 6 hours.

id put it down to the CSR who responded to you. if you talk to them several times you'd probably get different answers from them.

because you are using cable? and between 7-11 is where your neighborhood like to get online and surf....since with cable you share ur network in an area....therefore you get a lag spike.

with DSL, the line is all yours

I recommend you look into DSL. I have a similar problem with adephia, I always had good pings until about a month ago when they started fvcking things up. Now during peak hours it spikes up over 100ms. I'm moving at the end of the month anyway though, so I'm just going to get DSL.

I used to be a cable modem user (Knology), and it was good during 2000 and early 2001. After that things started going downhill quickly. Lag (as in severe lag bringing up their own internal ISP webpages, disconnects (ftp transfers would just quit), and then they blocked our pings so we couldn't ping anyone else outside the ISP network, and finally days of spotty service. By the time 2004 had rolled around, I was tried of it.

The wife and I then bought a house and got BellSouth DSL since the cable company (Charter) has no service out there and told me to go screw myself when I asked if they would ever bring out service that way. The pings times are great, the service has had little downtime, and the speeds are consistent.

I'd say go with DSL. In fact, I have DirecTV and DSL, and love it! I wouldn't go with Charter now even if they paid me to switch!

There is a difference between not supporting and not allowing. When they say they don't support it, they mean they won't help you with problems related to it. As far as they are concerned if you can ping remote hosts and the response time is within what they define as acceptable, they have done all they need to do.
