Good fun used car for $7500 and under.

I have a friend who wants a commuter car for a couple of years. Something that will last until he graduates Optometry school and can afford to buy a nicer car.

I was thinking in between the years of 1994 to 1998 for either a Prelude or Integra and if we get lucky a 1997 240sx perhaps.

Reliability is important and so is low maintainance, at least for the first couple of years.

Any other recommendations and or thoughts on the current three cars?

yeah...but he wants a fun sporty car. He figures when he's older and has a family then he'll get a sporty sedan.

also, If he gets the integra it would most likely be a 4 door.

Wait, how the hell you go from Prelude and Integra to 240sx and being lucky? 😕

And Skoorb... stfu about your maxima.

4th gen maxima is faster than that 240 sx or the prelude or the integra. Maybe not on the "twisties", which are no fun anyway 🙂

I mean if we could find a 1997/98 240sx for $7500 and under we would be very lucky.

Yeah they respect a premium price considering what they are IMO. They are RWD though, which is nice.

It depends on where you are.... you might find a 97/98 for $7500, but highly unlikely. And if you do, it'll be beat up and/or modified.

Depending on what you wanna do with the car, I'd say get the 89-93 model for $3k and spend the extra $4.5k and do the good ole engine swap with some goodies. BAM $7500 car that's faster.

I've been looking at Ludes and Tegs in the same price range. Found a 94 Prelude SI with only 75k miles for $5500 obo. Needs some minor body work and possibly a paint job, but runs great and I can most likely get him down to less then $5000. KBB is $7600 in my area. 🙂 Also was looking at a 95 GSR sedan with 83k miles. He's asking $6900 with remote entry, 2 12" subs and a 760w Pioneer amp. Body is almost in perfect condition... Look around and I'm sure you can come up with a decent car in his price range 🙂

Hmm...the turbo volvo is an interesting recommendation.

They're classy but sporty, they run forever, they're not a coupe so you can actually fit people in them, and as long as you take care of it you should be able to recoup a decent amount of your money back when you want to sell it.

They look absolutely pimp with nothing more than a nice set of rims and a good tint job.

The only downside is that if there are any major repairs that need to be done, they could be pricy.

The PT Cruisers are pretty nice....

They're a mid-life crisis car, nothing fun about them. My mom has one, they don't accellerate very well, they handle like crap, they're uncomfortable, and they're not as fuel efficient as they should be.

they're pretty ugly too.
