Good freeware/shareware HTML editor?

XMan

I've come to the conclusion that Microsoft Word sucks, and I don't know enough to just use a test editor . . .

Any ideas? And what would be a good product to buy once I get the hang of the free software?

Macromedia Dreamweaver 3! You can get a trial version (fully functioning for 30 days) at macromedia.
It is probably one of the hardest editors to use but the most powerful. Frontpage 2000 is easier to use but it's only decent.

300 bucks for Dreamweaver 3?!? Geesh. I can afford it easily, but isn't that a bit expensive for a personal webpage? I'm not going to make an E-commerce site or anything like that . . .

ndee- I is too stoopid to use Notepad. Want point-click-ahh. Good, eh? 😉

Why don't you try download homesite. I've heard a few good things about that and I think it's free?

Another shout for Hotdog 6.2, but considering that you probably
don't want to be working directly with the code I would have to
recommend Dreamweaver. Microsoft Frontpage and Adobe GoLive!
suck, but are both reasonably easy to use and are cheaper than
Dreamweaver.

Well actually, I'm kind of a Web Designer, and I would for making the design in Dreamweaver, and if you have to edit something, use Homesite. I've read a test, that Adobe GoLive 5.0 is also very good. Hope that helps.

My 0.02$

[Edit]And yeah, for a _good_ webpage, FP sucks[/Edit]

Neo - LOL.

I'm not a broke college student anymore. I don't have any legitimate excuses to pirate software.

Although, I just remembered that I have Office 2000 Professional - is Front Page Express included in that?

If you got Office 2000 Pro, you got not only FP Express (that one's free after all), but the more powerful 'normal' FrontPage. And whatever some may say, if you're just doing a personal homepage, FP works absolutely fine, especially if you don't want to learn the real HTML.
No matter what you do, ANYTHING is better than Word 🙂

Learn HTML on Notepad first, then move to DreamWeaver. If you know HTML and plan to use it extensively, DreamWeaver is a great buy. 🙂

Homesite is the best, you might be able to track down the freeware 1.2 version. If not, and you'd like to try it, let me know and I can make it available for download on my site.
