A friend of mine has a PC with a P4 2.4Ghz / 512MB AGP gpu system.

He can play BioShock 1 on medium/low and Doom 3 on medium.

What are some good games his system could handle? could be old stuff.

I'm going to let him borrow my far cry game..

I'm also thinking Quake 4 since he liked Doom 3

i'm surprised he can run bioshock, he must be tolerant of low frame rates.
get games that came out when 2.4ghz p4 was king.
the ghz is misleading, that thing is so slow it is off the scale...probably similar to an atom processor. forget cs source as well, more like cs 1.6;)
and of course the original star craft plays on anything now lol

CS Source will play fine. Also Unreal Tournament (the original and 2004). Jedi Knight II is only an FPS for the first couple levels and then you get a lightsaber and it's more of a third-person game, but it's still fun and will run fine.

Oh yeah, and the first Call of Duty.

Hitman 2! Not a run 'n' gunner, but an awesome game nonetheless.

Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield 2 are great shooters that are very different from each other. TT2 is simply fun BF2 has some great mods that still have people playing.

CS Source. No need for any other game, on ANY system... ever.

Unless you prefer a game where you are actually able to compete. Playing CS as a new player is pointless; you may as well just run headfirst into a brick wall for a couple hours.

The Half-Life 1 collection sounds like a great fit. TF Classic, HL Deathmatch, CS 1.6, Day of Defeat 1.3, among countless mods.

Source doesn't play well on that hardware guys... I had an Athlon 3500+ and a Radeon x1550 512mb, and source games (besides single player HL2) were a slideshow. HL1 games were smooth as silk to play.

I upgraded to an x2 4200+ and an 8800GTS 320mb for source.

Edit: Just booted into DOD:S on a 24 man server, I was getting 118fps average on high settings 2xAA 16xAF no HDR over the course of 15 minutes on a typical map.

If my Q8200 @ 3ghz and a 4830 can get dips down to 45fps in the intense moments, imagine what a single core P4 and an unknown GPU would do in that situation? 5-10fps at best? That's unplayable.

i dunno, i remember jumping from a pentium d 2.6ghz to a core 2 and the frame rates got way better for cs source. maybe if he sets settings to low... but even in old games, the source engine was a cpu hog.

I don't know if it was updated recently as I haven't played in years but I used to run CS Source in my P4 3.2 GHZ and X800 at high settings well.

CS Source uses the new source engine now, which is the same as TF2, L4D and DOD Source. It is much more CPU heavy and more GPU reliant as well. Overall it is more demanding.

I doubt my old s939 setup or my old P4 2.8HT and 9250se (yes, i owned that card too) could even run this game now.
