Apparently Nvidia haven't decided whether to produce an MX style card yet, and as they are under little obligation to (not much competition, GF2's need selling) they might not.

Well now, what goes around comes around. How do you spell INTEL, that's easy NVIDIA. Any of you people senior enough to remember how INTEL used to pork us right regular during the 80's and 90's, because they were king of the heap at the time. They charged us outrageous prices until they got bitch-slapped by AMD. Don't these people ever learn, that the internet will not allow them to get away with their price-gouging policies, we will see won't we. How many of you out there will roll over and flash your credit cards, for the $600 bragging rights? Will NVIDIA take the chance on losing the good, nay, great name they have earned by INTEL porking their loyal customers? I'll be watching, will you?

Whoever thinks a video card is worth $600 is crazy. My CPU(p3-1ghz) RAM and Mobo and sound card together dont even add up to $600. : / The G3 will be $600 + to start at. Except for the Hercules, thats supposed to be like $550. But its just like the G2's. As soon as another new card comes out, it will drop a good 20-30%. Its always gonna be like that heh, thats how they get your money. By the way, unless you REALLY know alot about video cards(the geforce3) I wouldnt bother to buy one for even $400. Just read up on the G3 before you just jump out of yer seat and scoup out $600 for one. I would just wait for G2 ultra's to drop to around $300- or so, they are gonna be just as fast.

I really don't think the $600 price tag will last very long, if at all. Just look at current economic trends, and how poorly PC resellers are doing. No computer manufacturer (except apple, but they don't seem too concerned about selling their product...just check their stock) is going to sell a computer with that card in it. I would expect it to hit $400 by the summer. And I think current vid cards are going to plummet in price, just to decline the fall of PC sales. Of course, this is just my opinion, from a market standpoint. I just bought a Hercules/Guillemot Prophet 2 Pro for 275, even though I know that card will hit $200 by the summer, if not earlier.

RoboTECH:

BTW, you figure out that goofy start menu bug thingee yet? :( how rude of that card to mess up your start menu.

There's nothing really to figure out. It's a bug with the drivers.

With the 6.72 drivers it doesn't happen very often (unlike the older drivers) and when it does, changing the desktop background redraws the Start Menu and fixes it. So it's not that much of a problem.

BFG, have you tried dragging the Taskbar off the screen, then dragging it back on?

Dunno, that might be easier than changing the desktop background.

Still kinda weird, for a company that can make such a kickass 3d accelerator. You'd think the 2d windows stuff would be a cakewalk.

go figure.

If you're paying more than $300 for a video card with isn't a professional graphics card or a video editing system, then you're dumb, quite frankly. With Nvidia's product cycle, that card will be worth substantially less in terms of MONTHS, not years. Why anyone would drop that kind of money on one part that holds its value only a little better than a CPU is beyond me.

<< Let the idiots buying compaq's and dell's for $2,500 coupled with "the new Geforce3" give Nvidia the revenue it deserves and needs. >>

As far as I know, compaqs and other stupid oems still stick tnt and tnt m64 in their cases...I seriously doubt a geforce 3 will be in inside

$600 - You must be Joking! What annoys me is that 3 months ago i decided to wait for the NV20 as i still have a TNT2 Ultra. Now spending $600 is mental. Looks like i'll just buy an ATI card now!

It is crazy. I still have a TNT2 myself because after I bought a tnt for $200 then few months later bought a TNT2 for $200. Now a TNT is like $15 and a TNT2 is like $30. I learned my lesson. Ive just been waiting for a good fast cheap card that is worth its pricetag. The Geforce2 and 3 Cards are way over priced, but look on the good side, you can get almost same speed increase with a Geforce2 MX which is about $78. That is a great value buy. A geforce2 32 meg, the cheapest is also $130. That is a good deal to. And lets face it, if you know alot about video cards and speeds, you should know a G2 ultra or upcomming G3 arnt that big of speed diff between a g2 32 meg. Or at least, not a $400-500 difference.

I hope the Geforce3 is available soon! I've preordered a 1.3Ghz Thunderbird(266FSB) and 256MB PC2100, and am waiting on my new video card for it.

You really think a video card is worth more than RAM, CPU AND Motherboard combined?

I think I have but it didn't work. I'll try it again because I don't remember.

Dunno, that might be easier than changing the desktop background.

Well I only have to do it once per session. After that it never gets corrupted.

Still kinda weird, for a company that can make such a kickass 3d accelerator. You'd think the 2d windows stuff would be a cakewalk.

Yeah. They must have their driver priorities elsewhere.

As soon as all the companies that currently make GF2 cards come out with GF3 cards, the prices will drop very quickly. They will all be undercutting eachother to get sales. This competition will drive prices down to more realistic prices. I'm guessing that $450 will be the going price pretty soon.

I'm sort-of a gamer, and I have a hard time paying over $100 for a video card, let alone upwards to $600. That kind of price is pathetic; especially in today's PC market where they are having trouble giving away CPUs.

It's coming down to this: less competition. nVidia is the next Microsoft.
