Go someplace cheap. Just ask her to go to Mickey Ds, TacoBell or BK with you. Order a simple lunch or dinner for the two of you then sit and talk.

Make it feel natural. You don't need to take her to some elaborate place cuz then you won't have anything to talk about but the place. Gets old fast.

You can save the good date for a second or third date.

Anyway, if it doesn't work out you won't feel so bad since you didn't spend much money to begin with. And besides, if a girl likes you you dont' need to spend much money on her to spark things up. If she doesn't like you you can spend all you want but she'll just end up saying "well, I like you as a friend".

I dunno. I wuld say that McDogcraps or Booger King is a bit too cheap . . . I'd say take 'er to a local mom 'n pop joint where it's relatively cheap but not everything's plastic . . ..

At least dinner alone wouldn't be $60, eh? ;)

(Seriously, what kinda idiot [that's relatively young] blows $60 on dinner alone? That just builds higher expectations from the girl, and I'm not about to shell >$60 everytime we go out!)

I wasn't aware that there are financial requirements for dating. Did I miss something? Can someone forward me the memo?

I noticed a lot of insincere responses.

Take the girl to a movie and then dinner at a place in your price range. This is the best first date. Be sure and kiss her when you drop her on her parent's doorstep at the end of the night. :D

Article VII, Paragraph 4. Geez.

But seriously, it's pretty lame to be taking girls out while making mom & dad pay for it. And taking someone to McDonald's for a date... that's just tacky. $60 for two ppl to have dinner isn't outrageous.

My prom dinner cost us less than that! Of course, that was almost a half decade ago . . . suddenly I feel (relatively) ooooold. :(

And who said that he's paying for a date with their parent's money? I'm cheaper when it comes to my own money . . ..

I'd agree and say that movies are a bit insincere. That's too . . . bleh, and it offers no space for getting to know each other better. Take her to a jazz cafe, or a offeehouse with local musicians/poets, a community theatre/concert even, if you have an interest in these things.

I hear ya. I'm just annoyed at the "spend money to show that you care about me" mentality.
Maybe my lack of money makes me bitter.

Go to a baseball game, then a pub, eat something at Dunkin Donuts, then say goodnight to her.

Dude, he is 17 and she is 16. jazz and coffee are 30-40 year old type dates. Although I will show my age and say that a jazz cafe and coffee would make me fall very quickly in love with a new lady. Too bad all the chicks I currently know only suck down cheap wine and complain too much...

I agree that a movie is a bad place for a first date. Keep it for the third or fourth. You'll spend too much time watching the movie you won't get to know each other. The reason for the third/fourth date is that by then you'll probably have kissed her, and you'll spend most of the movie doing that rather than watching.

First impressions are the most important. It's not really about where you take her, it's about how you are around her. Take her out for a reasonable dinner. I wouldn't say McD's, but a good place would be a small restaurant that not many people know about, but with good food. And then make sure, and DON'T forget this, make sure to get her a good dessert. This hasn't been mentioned, but it's important.

And make sure you can make her laugh, or giggle. If you can't make her laugh on the first date, you're doomed.

A new venue in life might change their ways (and esp. the way they view you ;)!)

I was agreeing with the asking for money from parents part. I would not feel right asking for money.
The lack of money comment was just me trying to be funny. I'm a little weird and don't have much need for money right now in my day-to-day life.

I'm pretty out of it so most of what I post will not make sense.

Good point. I dunno, I suppose it depends on your motives...? What I said prolly pertains more to the cheap & lazy highschooler types who hang out here. If you genuinely don't have extra money to spend on dates, I don't think there's any shame in looking for more thrifty (thriftier?) options.

BTW, thanks for replying without insulting me. Nice to see that some ppl can express different opinions without acting like children.

Fine fine, just take her to a chinese restaurant for dinner then. Its cheap there plus no one really hates chinese food. They don't even know whats in it half the time.;)

Please, do not joke about not having any money. The bitter, bitter harshness of me being broke is thrown upon me every waking second . . . :(:(:(

dude don't do bowling. I'm with you, it seems like a fine place to go for a first date, but I've asked girls to go bowling before and for some reason they never seem up to it. Even if you do something like cosmic bowling (do you have that?), it'll get old fast.

Got any amusement parks nearby? It'll be a much more memorable date. If this was already suggested then sorry I didn't read the whole thread.

Sorry to hear that.

Soon as I get out of school I'll probably be in a similiar position. Although I'm thinking about living below my means just so I don't have to worry about money. It kinda makes sense.

Amusement parks are designed to suck money out of any unsuspecting sucker. And me, being an ususpecting sucker, I would actually recommend it. . . but not for a first date. If you guys aren't up for bowling, how 'bout some mini putt putt (minigolf)?

you're right about the cost. But i've had some great times at Disneyland and Magic Mountain, and if you have the cash it's definitely a possibility. Although I am inclined to say it might be better as a third or fourth date too.

Mini golf is a good idea, better than bowling IMO.
