I already have an 18 giger but i'm starting to run out of space. I really dont need more than another 20 gigs. What do you guys recomend? I'm going for best bang for buck here. Also if anyone knows of any rebates or something for a good HD please pm me.
well IBM has always been dependable for me, but if you want something really cheap you might wanna try Maxtor. I have a 20.1 (give or take a few hundred megs 😀) maxtor in addition to my 14.4 ibm desktar and have not had a single trouble from either one of em' (thats been all of 2 years btw).
Damn, with all these recommendations for the IBM drive, here's another one. But of course, try out the Maxtors. I have had great experiences with both brands. Maxtor has really shaped up recently, their drives hold the best bang for the buck.
Lots of people complain about the IBM not being reliable, and if you've got something faster than 700 mhz you'll need the IDE hard drive update on windows update. I've had one for two days and haven't had any problems with it. Its damn fast...stuff loads up a lot faster. Of course I've been using ATA/33 and Ultra SCSI hard drives for 2 years so I may be exaggerrating a bit.
If you do buy it, I'd suggest going retail instead of OEM. That way you're more likely to get one that works well.
OEM or Retail is a very large controversy with hard drives because some say they are the same and some say the only difference is that one comes with a manual and cable. Does anyone know the right answer?
