Good external RAID solution?

I have a 250gb backup hard drive running off Firewire right now. Is there any way to do Firewire raid or something? I keep archived project files on it and I'd love to add another one in RAID 1 (mirroring) "just in case". Any good solutions for this?
 
Get another USB drive, and just do a nightly file synch.

I've never seen a USB/Firewire external drive with RAId, but there are a few NAS devices that have it.

Yeah, I've seen some, but they run like $1,000. I like having an external drive with an on/off switch, makes me feel a lot safer than having it connected to the computer 24/7. Sync is doable, but raid 1 is less hassle. Oh well 😛
