Exchange is the best, obviously, but a bit price and needs a lot of server horsepower. Otherwise, you should be able to find a reasonable POP server on the cheap. Check out Tucows for a list of POP mail servers.

If you want to spend the cash, I highly recommend IMail, but it's expensive. FTGate was OK, MDaemon is a bit better, SLMail is well thought of, as well. Most will run quite nicely on Win2K and will support a variety of Internet mail routing as well.

Also, check Eudora WorldMail - It's reasonably priced and has some great features which are missing from most shareware products.

Check out Merak Mail, i've used MDaemon before this and honestly i'm glad i let go of MDaemon. Less hang-ups, less footprint, faster overall, more stable and etc.

Merakmail is rather inexpensive compared to all the other packages and performs quite well. My particular set-up has been runnning for approximately 11 months without needing a restart/reboot and to date it has processed just a little over 33 GB of mail data with no hiccups.

ive used mercury and pegasus, and i really liked it although it was under a novell network, but i am sure there is a MS equiavalent.

heh, the fact that it worked under Novell is one reason not to use it 🙂
