It's been a while since I've used eBay and I can't find the site I used before. Does anybody have a reliable website that they use on a regular basis? Thanks in advance.

I don't get the point of sniping when u can just bid to the highest you are willing to go and eBay will auto raise if there are competing bids

1. Sniping is fun. It's like lying in wait in the bushes and then snatching the bag of food from the takeout window as they are passing it to the driver and running down the street laughing hysterically.

2. Most people do not put in their absolute highest bid. If they did, sniping would be useless. Instead, they lowball at first waiting to see how cheap they can get away with it. If someone else bids, they look at their wallet again and decide if they can afford to top it. By waiting until the last minute you rob them of the chance to enter a higher bid.

If the price is now $8 I'm going to let it sit at $8 all the way until there's 13 seconds left and then put in my $20 max bid. That way (hopefully) the price only jumps to $8.50 and nobody else has a chance to keep on bumping up the bids to find out how much my max bid is. Sometimes it works, and sometimes someone else has a $25 max bid already. In either case, I had fun, and I didn't pay over my $20.

if you don't mind leaving your comp on, there's a desktop program bid-o-matic that will bid for you. I think there's even a firefox extension somewhere.

yeah do that and someone will bid over and over until they get close to your highest price and you'll get into bidding wars.

They are morons to think you can snipe people on ebay. Put in your max price and you're done. If you don't get it, someone wanted it more than you. Waiting to the last second to bid is useless because if your bid is lower than someone's max, YOU LOSE.

Sniping makes no sense. I never get mad if I lost an auction at the last second. As stated above me, that just means someone wanted it more than I did.

Why would I get into a bidding war with someone. It's not like I have some psychological complex where I HAVE to win the auction. If they're willing to pay more than I am then they are more than welcome to win it

you don't have to, but someone else would.
and people do psychologically bid just a bit more than they originally planned to just so they can have that #1 place.
