is this even a peripheral? anyway, i went in there the day AFTER I SAW THIS and they changed prices. fuck.

amazon has it for 13.50 shipped, i may try that. the thing is, i wanted it from CC in case i had to return it.
 
My favorites:
Koss KSC75
and
Koss KTXPRO1

I have 2 KSC75 and 1 KTXPRO1, I think they're way better than my Sony Fontopia, Philips etc.

Best features from these Koss:
-open air design (no sweaty ears)
-very good bass (but not boomy)
-clear mids & highs
-super comfortable

I don't have any expensive earphones since I've a decent home speakers.
 
I'm partial to the Sony EX-81 buds, they have the over the ear frame to keep them in place. I find the sound very nice for a under $40 set of headphones. In fact, they are about the only Sony product I actually like...
 
For around $30, Creative EP-630s. Sonys may be okay, but a lot of people have had quality issues with them. Most of them who come to Head-Fi and ask for recommendations usually end up getting something like EP630s or Sennheiser CX300s (basically the same earphone), and are usually impressed with the sound quality improvement.
 
Headbanger audio, hands down. $20 and nothing in that price range, or some even expensive ones, can touch it for sound quality. I bought some Koss ones back when I stuck these up in Hot deals, and they dont even come close.

Would these be good for going to the gym and general exercising? Told the wife I wanted some new earphones and she said she had just read something about hearing problems and the in-ear type devices? So I guess I was kinda looking for something outside the ear. My hearing is bad enough as it is.

I can tell you it depends on your ears. The stock plugs for the headbangers wouldnt be able to stay in if you went for a run, UNTIL, I removed the plugs off the Koss brand and put them on the bangers. I cant go for a run for obvious reasons, but I do mow my yard while wearing them and before they would always fall out, now they stay put. and I should say even back before I did the swap and they fell out often, the quality of sound that was produced from them is what made me never get rid of them and dealt with it.

As far as over the ear, i havent really come across anything that can sound anywhere close to the bangers, Ive been spoiled since getting them and hard to find anything yet that can come close to it in over the ear. but I would say maybe look towards a Logitech brand. I have 2 over the ear head sets, used to use them for skype, and they dont get near as deep bass, but still very clear on the highs, and mids. And most review very well too if you find one(s) that look like they may work for you and go google them for a review and see what other have to say.

I cannot comment on high end brands, Im not a rich man as of late, but back when I was single I used to buy "the best" and for the most part, getting older and wiser, found you dont need to buy "the best" to have the best. Most the time your buying a brand name vs quality stuff in a generic name, to say. 😉
 
Gah...i would rather have over the ear, but its a pain in the ass to fit them in your pocket and theyre annoying to workout w/
 
I like my E2Cs, they are decent and isolate very well, and microphonics are better than some other great IEMs I have tried (atrio m5 - Greeeeeat sound, too bad I lost it 🙁), so that makes it a perfect choice for jogging/running/working out.

To my knowledge though, earbuds != IEMs so this is pretty irrelevant. Nor are clip-ons like the excellent ksc-75 should be recommended IMO, as the op wants earbuds, not clip-ons.

That being said, I did enough comparison between px-100 and ksc-75 and went with the former, very happy with it. If you just need some portable cans without isolation, this could be a very warm, relaxing and relatively good sounding ones with great comfort.

As for the earbuds, I heard very good things about Yuin pk series, especially regarding their bang for buck.
 
My friend just picked up Creative EP630s (on my recommendation) and he says they're a huge improvement over his old Sony EX71s (Fontopias). He's quite satisfied, especially since he used a $30 gift card that he had for a while.

they used to go for $50 shipped new a while ago on several occasions. thats about how much for my used set. as for the wire getting wrapped around you earlobes, I have not found a better solution yet to minimize microphonics and secure the earbuds/IEMs in place. back when I still had atrios, I had to wear those the same way to achieve better results for working out.

again, if you need something that could fit snugly in your pocket and sound very good while not costing much, PX-100 is about as good as it gets. the thing is comfy to wear, folds in half and comes with a carrying case too (without the case, it weighs little and stays in my pocket very well). the only problem is lack of any isolation at all, could be a problem if you want to take them to a crowded gym.
 
sooo....Sennheiser MX500's or Marshmallows?? i really dont like how there is a seperate volume control knob on the Sennheisers.
 
I'm looking for some earbuds as well. Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Don't want the type that go into your ear canal.
  • Must have a short cord (to play nicely w/ my iPod radio remote).
  • Must have a straight (not L-shaped) plug on the cord attached to the earbuds (I've seen some w/ L-shaped plugs that include an extension w/ a straight plug).
  • Must sound better than the stock iPod headphones.
  • Less than $100
