Good DVD-R Discs?

Looking to buy my first batch of DVD R discs for my NEC 16x Dual Layer. What's a good brand of discs out there? Any advice on what I should be looking out for? Currently I have my eye on a 50 spindle of sony 8x discs.

Imation
Verbatim
Ritek

Decent brands (not as bad a bad media rate as the ones I avoid) include...
Fuji

Brands I avoid at ALL cost...
Sony
Memorex

I had a couple of spindles of Sony at one time (they were cheap)... Of the two 50 count spindles, I had no less than a dozen bad disc's... Of the thousands of disc's from both Imation and Verbatim I've used, I've yet to get a bad disc.

Sony media has been so bad, that no one at work recommends them to any user. You can get lucky and have good spindles of media, but I won't risk it.

I went to Walmart the other day and got some DVD-Rs there because I was in a hurry. I bought some Maxell DVD-R 8x 15 pack, I looked at the label and it said that it was made in Japan, so I bought them. All I have to say that I am fairly impressed since I've burned 7 discs so far all at 16x (with my NEC 3500a)with zero problems with them.

I've had good luck with Riteks.

No so good with Memorex. I would never buy them again.

I just got my nec 3520 too! I picked up some memorex from bb 8x 50 pack for 20. It is made in india 😵 no problems!!! and the Verbiterm is good.

Verbatim/ Taiyo Yuden have a rep for great quality. Ritek (only for dvd) is a med quality. Most data isn't worth the premium of some disk, so I get Ritek mostly.

I love fuji's over 75 of them and not a coaster yet. I loved their CD-R's as well.

TDK and Memorex -- no coasters here.

I used to love the TDK media deals at Staples, since the 4x TDK DVD+R was RICOHJPN media. However, recently the 25-packs of DVD+R have been CMC media (same as the Teon).

I'll still continue to use them, though as CMC seems to work well in my Liteon burner and other DVD drives.

Fuji brand DVD-R made in Japan are Taiyo Yudens....can't go wrong there

Jeez the brand name has nothing to do with it...
Imation, Fuji, Sony, Memorex...do not use their own media..they rebadge

Taiyo Yuden make in general excellent quality of media although there are some lower quality batches of TY02 8x dvd+r....still better very good quality

Mitubishi Chemical(sp) are good as well in general MCC 003/MCC004....I got some real el cheapo MCC003 from Staples BF teon..not very good MCC003 as they burn with a ring

CMC are general crap..whether + or -R

Ritek have some good discs....

Ricoh R01 4x dvd=R are excellent...ricoh R02 some are good but not as high quality as the R01

Ooops for _R TG02...Taiyo Yuden 8x-R seem to burn nicely from reports...in general loo kfor made in JApan

Staples branded media made in India...8x +r burn well in the Benq 1620 at 12x

I use Memorex DVD-R 8X paired with my Lite-On 16X Dual Layer and yet to miss a burn! 🙂
