good documentaries?

i like watching documentaries... sometimes, because it gives me something to think about rather than watching mtv for two hours straight. we watched a few good documentaries from ken burns (civil war and jazz), and so i was wondering, what are some other good, thought provoking documentaries. is Bowling for Columbine any good, i heard it was an academy award, but haven't actually seen it yet (don't know if it's out on video yet)?
 
I thought Bowling for Columbine was fairly entertaining, even though I didn't agree with a lot of what Moore had to say. I wouldn't rely on it for facts.

If you want some really interesting and informative documentaries, try Stephen Hawking's Universe. It's made up of three volumes: The Big Bang, On the Dark Side, and Black Holes and Beyond.
 
Hearts and Minds (about vietnam, pretty powerful stuff)

Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (it may take you 45 minutes to get into this one, but once you do there is no going back if you have an open mind)

Dark Days (really interesting, about people that live in NY subways)

Crumb (about the famous artist, he's a strange guy and has a very strange family, makes for a good doc)

American Movie (really funny doc about a guy making a low budget movie)

all those are brilliant documentaries

also,

anything with David Attenborough in it, nature stuff, the newest one on DVD is:

The Life of Mammals

and it is great.
