Good deals here? MicroCenter 20% off BYOPC sale

The sale is currently advertised on the front page of their web site. It might be worth checking out.

Here is Micro Center's product page for the power supply. I don't know what quality it is, but it can't be any worse than the no-name power supply I just bought for $25 and burned up immediately by plugging in a floppy backwards. So much for the over-current protection the PS supposedly had.

Fry's B&M had a similar deal for the same PS. No PFC and 70% efficiency, but the 12V rails look pretty healthy at 2x 16A.

A couple friends and I just went to the local Microcenter to check it out a couple days ago; the best deals they had are the E8400 for $189 and the 8800GT SSC for $230 ($220 for reference). Most of the parts I looked at were pretty good prices, too. Microcenter's got a great selection (for those who don't have Fry's nearby, probably the best selection you've ever seen).

I nought on those cooler master PSUs from Microcenter. it worked OK, but was very loud - the fan seemed to run at full speed all the time. I took it back and ordered my current PSU. If you don't mind a louder PSU, its a great PSU for the price.

Microcenter carries Corsair, OCZ, Seasonic, and some other good name PSUs, 20% off applies to most. If you can find a rebate for one of the Corsairs to go along with the 20% off sale I would jump all over it. I've used a couple dozen of their modular 520 & 620 PSUs in builds over the past year or so and am hooked on their units. They are rock solid, "ooze" quality, and are backed by a 5 yr. warranty. And their implementation of modular cabling is one of the best, no sloppy main connections to the power supply.

They had a viper 3870 for $199.99. Good price, but it said usually ships in 7-21 days. Still a good deal if you don't mind waiting.

They had quality control issues with some fans running full blast. Found a few other people had the same problem while reading Newegg reviews on the 550W Extreme Power (likely the same except for the label outside).

My 550W CM Extreme Power has a slow and quiet fan (Free-after-rebate from SVC and elsewhere late last year). It is a very good psu for $10AR (Seventeam?), and iirc actual efficiency is high for a non-pfc psu. Cooler Master rebates have been coming through ok so far.

They also carry a full range of Enermax and Antec including the higher-end ones. I think this week they have a sale for the Antec Quattro 850W for $140 after rebate, which is pretty good for B&M.

But ya I love having a MC much closer than before (the Fairfax location was a bit of a hike). They have tons of DIY stuff similarly priced to what you'll find online, and usually cheaper after you factor in $5-8 shipping on a $10-20 item. Also love how they carry a good selection of quality CPU coolers for competitive prices, again potentially cheaper after you factor in shipping.

Yeah, I was considering that PSU, but when we consider tax...

$129.99 AR free shipping @ newegg

I'm going to have bite the bullet and wait for it to arrive rather than pay the extra cost. Although it is cheaper at MC before the rebate...

Well, the CM PSU is working, and is quiet. I'm happy for what I got for $10 AR. 🙂

I also like having MicroCenter nearby. It was even better when I worked for a place that did a lot of business with them -- I got extra discounts that way.

I think the 20% off BYOPC sale is nearly over, but they are still advertising it.
