Good deal on motherboard at Tiger direct?

$200 - $60 rebate = $140

figure you've got a 10% chance at seeing the $60

If you do, then decent deal
If not, then you could have done better

I'd personally stay away because of the hundred warnings of others about Tiger Direct and rebates

You better hope and pray you get the rebate. Too bad it's not a manufacture mail in rebate or I'll jump on this deal. Tigerdirect rebate is just bad business.

How many rebates are you missing from Tigerdirect to date?

Just one. Decided to give them the benfit of doubt and surely enough the screwed me for a CPU rebate over a year ago. I know it is only one, but based on all other reviews they are nothing but scam artist.

I'm out two; i believe they are being investigated for their business practices as i type. as an etailer, they have okay prices; but count their rebates into the mix and their credibility is *poof* gone.

I got about the same deal from TD, took forever and a day for the rebate to come, but they did come eventually. This deal comes with not one, but two rebates.

I also had to resubmit two out of three rebates after sending three rebates in one envelope (one was entered into the online system, the other two were not.) I resubmitted the two (in the same envelope) and both went through this time. All rebates were paid weeks after they were due. Actually not the worst rebate experience I've had (cough.. Mad Dog.. cough) FWIW, YMMV. On the plus side, shipping was fast and the packaging was very good.

I think I would try to find a board with PCI-E video instead of AGP. cost is nearly the same, and I think PCI-E offers more 'recycling' potential in the future.

If you do go the rebate route, be double-sure to copy your documentation, having those copies saved me $140. Don't waste your money on certified mail to satisfy the conditions of the "Tiger Direct Rebate Guarantee", since the rebate processor you'll be dealing with (onRebate.com) is a subsidiary of Tiger Direct. If they choose not to pay your rebate there is hardly any chance Tiger will. Do check your rebate's online status to make sure they've received your submission, and use the money you saved not getting certified mail to resubmit when they don't show up.

Didn't TD implement some rebate system a few months ago.. to ensure that customers received their rebates? Or has that been stopped already lol.

TD has been much better lately with their rebates. You do have to jump through a few hoops (register online, send via registered mail, etc.) if you want to take advantage of their rebate "guarantee". There are at least two, if not more rebates with this combo, so be prepared to lick some envelopes and stamps. I've purchased a couple of memory chips and HD's and rec'd the rebate within 8 weeks or so. That being said, my personal take on rebates is this: Don't buy ANYTHING just for the rebates. Everything I buy with a rebate, I am fully prepared to pay full price for in the off-chance that it gets turned down, or due to my own stupidity forget to mail it off.

As far as your gaming combo goes, this should work as a pretty good base to build on. Personally, I've migrated away from the "VIA" chipsets and would rather use NVidia's n-force chipset. My A64 has a SIS chipset and I've been happy with it as well. This is just my honest opinion, as VIA left me rather dissatisfied with a couple of their chipsets both pre-Athlon and during the early Athlon days. As far as I know, there are no current issues with VIA boards, and ASUS is one of the best at building boards, so support shouldn't be an issue should you happen to have a problem.

Now, before anyone starts with the "double-standards" issue as far as giving TD a second chance but not VIA, let me just say this: I am perfectly willing to risk not getting my rebate as long as I get what I need. However, I am not willing to lay out cash for something that may not work to my satisfaction. If VIA (or anyone else) want to send me a test board to compare it with others I have (and other VIA boards from the past), I'd be more than happy to give them a second chance as well. 😉

You can probably pick out a cheap board for 50, cpu under 100 and a stick of 512mb ram for 50 somewhere else. Then get a used 9800 graphics card and you're pretty much all set.

Reseller Rating 6.48

Average store is 7.49.

Just read some of the recent customer reviews. Predominately "Very Dissatisfied".
Also an interesting customer review on rebates and warranty.

i'll let you know how it goes. my friend had me order one of these combos for her.. luckily i'm being reimbursed pre-rebate price. I showed her the reseller ratings but she wouldnt budge..

To date, out of about approx. 10 items I have purchased in the past with rebates, I have only recieved 3 of them. Then you call and tell these companies you never recieved the rebate and they always say its out of their control and to call the post office and complain. Rebates are a sick gamble, but thats my opinion.

This is all OLD (ie, on the verge of obsolete) stuff. Old MB. Athelon 32 CPU (now replaced with the new chip). And a 512 MB memory chip, which isn't BAD, but I would be looking at 1GB chips now.

And there is the rebate business. Plan on the combo costing $200 and if you get the rebate, it is gravy.

Call a store and talk to a manager. Fax the STORe your rebate info and they'll credit the account. They are really skittish about rebate problems. Don;t screw around with their process. Call a store manager and complain.

And this stuff is OLD. Not all that hot. A 64 bit athlon combo is not that much more.

Good luck,
EH

your better off going to outpost.com and getting a cpu/mb bundle there....the have socket A deals all the time....for le$$

after this past week, TD has NOT COME THROUGH WITH 2 of my orders placed over 2 weeks ago, one of them, they cant even determine if it shipped yet from the warehouse.
THIS IS ALSO MY BUSINESS ACCOUNT I HAVE WITH THEM WITH MY OWN COMPANY!!! Imagine what happens at the regular consumer level....
well stated when you said its like playing with fire...
I will NOT DO business with TD again, no matter how good the deal looks,,i will pay the extra money on NewEgg or somewhere else...

well i think the deal is off today, and i didnt get it so, thanks anyways, but all this rebate stuff is incredible, my dad and i both have used TD and always gotten back our rebates, on time too. I guess its just luck o the draw.

Why do people continue to post Tiger Direct crap?? I just don't get it. Many people say they are junk and people still post the stuff anyways.

ha ha, first time ive ever heard anything bad about tiger direct is after i posted this forum, for all i knew they were cheap, had a lot of stuff, and had reliable customer service, i guess thats not the case.

There are a LOT of people here that were stiffed not only by TD, but by SOYO (which happened to be what a lot of people had bought from TD). SOYO did not honor rebates that they offered for any of their products, including a combo unit that included a case, power supply, system board, keyboard, speakers and mouse for $99 with $99 in rebates. TD has since changed a lot in how they process rebates, making consumers jump through quite a few hoops to get them filed properly. I'm not a big fan of rebates personally, so I haven't been bit too much by them as I try to avoid them whenever possible.
I can't say too much about TD's shipping issues that someone complained about earlier as I don't live too far away from one of their outlet stores and do most of my shopping with them there.

OnRebate.com screwed me on a Tiger Direct purchase. I got a Soyo 17" LCD with a $70 rebate. OnRebate.com said I didn't include the UPC (I did). I called TD to see if they could do anything about it and to my surprise they credited me the full $70 rebate.

well, i got my shipment from TD yesterday. All installed and up and running. no probs. now all i have to worry about is the rebates..
