Good Deal on Kenwood KDC-MP8017 In-Dash CD/MP3 Player

I've been looking for one for some time, and I found a fairly good price at www.savinglots.com: $290 with free shipping until June 15. This unit has pretty good reviews compared to the similarly priced Aiwa and Sony players. On Egay these sell for around $250-$270, but at least with this store you get a 30-day return policy and a warranty. The actual store is in NY, so for people there there would be a tax on top of that. For me, however, the price is $289.95 shipped. They also give you a $25 coupon good for your next purchase from them.

Ditto on the JVC model. I can't decide between the two, so I've got both of them on their way. I'll compare and one will win, the other to egay. Better deal on the Kenwood: SBH Enterprises (a yahoo store) has it for $270 with free shipping. I didn't want to order from them, though, cause I don't know how reliable they are. So I price matched it with Sears and now I can return it if I want.

StayPuff:

JVC KD-SH99. Compare it with the Kenwood KDC-MP8017 at Crutchfield to see why the JVC's specs are better.

JVC's specs are definitely better, but that silver body just wouldn't go with my car interior, so I got the Kenwood. I'm very pleased with the performance (no skips!) and audio output of the Kenwood, though those tiny buttons are kind of a pain.

I personally think the deal is better from Crutchfield.. there's a URL out there for free shipping from them, plus using one of those $25 off on your first order things made it $335 shipped. Most the low-ball places don't include the wiring harness or bracket for your car and have restocking fees or no return policies. All in all I'm pretty darn pleased with the unit.

I am in the market for a car MP3 player. Are any being made with the "extended skip protection" feature? This feature is easy to find on any walkman type player, but I have not found it on a car player. My truck rides rough on occasion, and the skips and pauses are starting to get to me. ESP as I understand it is just a small RAM buffer that takes over for the brief instant the CD would otherwise skip when jarred. My Kenwood DSP-885 has 20 seconds worth of skip protection! Seems like a good feature for a car unit as well. Thanks, Jon

As of right now, I can't tell you for sure about the skipping, but if you search around the internet and on other forums, you'll find most people having zero problems with skipping.

Once I recieve my two units, I'm going to put up a review/comparison...

more features at the same price doesnt necessarily mean better.... kenwood is a helluva lot better for any car components than JVC is...

i have the kenwood, its soooo phat. =)

btw never skipped once.

i got mine from crutchfield, never order from anywhere else =)

Kenwoods are way better then JVC. im looking at the Kenwood z828 mp3 player. anyone have it? how do you like it? It looks pretty tight but im debating between the z828 and the MP8017.

I just wanted to point out that 800.com is selling the Sony CDXMP450X for $329.95. It comes with a free installation kit and wiring harness plus a $50 gift check from 800.com. I'm not sure if this is a good deal since I haven't been shopping around for one. I need the $$$ first...

sandigga: Your first point is very true, but the one about Kenwood vs. JVC I must disagree on. First off, have you ever owned a JVC that you could back this up with? Second, have you actually heard/experienced the newest JVC line? I have heard the DigiFine series and they sound better than the Kenwood to me. I'm not trying to pick a fight or be an ass, I just hate when people say things when they have no support for it or experience. That's how rumors get started...

<< i never thought i'd see the day when someone recommended jvc over kenwood for a car deck. >>

WileCoyote: Here comes the day... see my reply to sandigga, too.

ZackyFarms: see my reply to sandigga, as well. As far as the z828 goes, I don't think the large amount of extra money for it is worth it. Other than the outputs and the screen/effects (which will get old quickly), it's pretty much the same thing as the 8017.

eliang: Check some audio forum boards and you'll find most Sony owners complaining about this one. I can't speak for it, however, because I haven't experienced or looked into it. Just a heads up...

definitely waiting on the jvc. it tops out the others in the same price range. as far as the z828, well it costs 2x as much so im not even gonna bother. goodlord i cant hardly wait!

im also thinking seriously about the sony 1000w@1ohm class d amp. anyone have any useful info on it? i know i know, its sony, but for the value (i can get it for ~230), 4 year new replacement warranty, and power, i cant pass it up. otherwise an rf 360.2 or mtx 250d.

anyways, w/o thinking twice, definitely without an iota of a doubt, get the jvc kd-sh99 or if you have money to burn, the kenwood z828. the others simply pale in comparision. try www.mp3highway.com or www.crutchfield.com and compare the differences for yourself. i've spoken with a few who have it and they agree.

NetMarket - NetMarket.com has the JVC KDSH99 for $302.99 + $8.95 (s/h). I've ordered from them before and the item(s) arrived when promised. It appears NetMarket has relationships with several smaller operations. My items arrived from two different stereo shops. It would kill me to purchase this receiver from Crutchfield for $399 because I also live in VA and have to pay tax on purchases from there.

Which Sears store carries this model of Kenwood...I went to one Sears store in Concord, CA and they did not carry this. I went to Goodguys and they would not pricematch this online price for Kenwood. I know Sears does, so I hope to get there...thanks
😀

Is it true that Crutchfield includes a free wiring harness and a bracket specifically for your car with every order?

You can get that same wireharness and bracket at your local bestbuy for under $15 bucks..

seeing how Crutchfield charges you almost MSRP for items it's not really a deal..

they have nice CSR's tho.

Well, I have a Ford Taurus, and the radio is in one unit with the vent and A/C controls. The replacement bracket is around $60. If they give that to me free for shopping there, that's a heck of a deal.

In my opinion, you can't beat buying these things locally at a B&M store. They usually offer free installation, and many vehicles today are way too complicated to install a stereo yourself. (My minivan even required a $40 voltage converter for the Sony XPlod we had installed...it was free as part of the installation at Best Buy.)

You'll pay a few dollars more at a B&M, but I think it's worth it.

Hi all,

I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with z828. I'd have to say that it was a tossup between this one, the jvc, and waiting for availability for the clarion one (which is what i really wanted). just wanted to let you all know that the z828 is working out great, although I could have asked for a motorized screen.....
